Liked this ep too. Seems the Priors have a complete hold on these elite jaffa which could be serious trouble for everyone else.

I found this pretty slow and uninteresting. It was painfully obvious from the beginning that the two guys were brothers - the guy always referring to "your opponent" when talking to Mitchell made it very irritating. I couldn't associate with the elite jaffa either - they just seemed way too over the top.

    Next please.

ok was it just me or was this just a jaffa version of The Last Samurai?? come on! think of an original story that doesnt have such an obvious OMG its his brother moment! sorry i just thought this was bas to sc1 crappy days of generic poo

also why were half the jaffa black and the other asian? surely if they were living in seclusion for 5000 years they would be completely interbread?

    rant over....for now

Very bleh episode. Bower just cant support an entire episode on his own and this one just sludged along.

Well I figured the two were brothers based on the fact that the opening credits had two actors with the same surname - surely that bloody well spoils any element of surprise?!

Bonus points for including Tony Todd though and Cigarette-Smoking Ori...

As an episode, I can't really understand why we've not heard of the Sodan before. Sure a cursory mention was made that they didn't wish to help the Jaffa rebellion but surely Teal'c would've made an effort before now to try to enlist their help, even if it was merely a mention or two?!

What I did like this episode was the development of Mitchell. When he got shot in the opening, I feared we'd once more see him spend an episode unconscious. Not to be - we got some half decent characterisation, although I'm not convinced he's as much presence as O'Neill has. OTOH, this was all at the expense of everyone else who seemed to do little to try and find him - I mean why wasn't Carter doing techno-wizardry to try and find him? And why not show more interest in the Ancient tech. and writings?

I'll assume that this episode is laying some groundwork for some future Ori-related episode. Not bad - just average...

Good episode, despite the fact that it was a complete ripoff of the movie "The last samurai".

Meh. I thought it was alright. I'm not a big fan of actor-reuse myself, so I wasn't so keen on Tony Todd showing up, although he has a good face for a Prior. The fact that "Skinner" was on SG:A next gave it too much of a repetitve feel. The episode didn't really come to much of a conclusion either. All-in-all, filler.

It was OK. As some of the posters have said a mysterious sect suddenly showing up is opportune. It suggests to me that they are looking for some way to keep a bit of interest by adding an extra plotline. I guess the thinking is they need as many as possible as the Ori are pretty predictable.

SG1 got ambushed just scoutin about. Crossed my mind how come the prior didnt get ambushed as well. Got the impression these guys wanted to be left in Solidarity.

Agree the Ori are prity predictable & I cant see how they'll actually be defeated unless the ancients intervene which seems to be unlikely atm.

The girl that was in for a while from Farscape shoulda hung about insteada the fella. Had more... amm,,, zest :P

yeah those opening seens, whher aboput 500,000 shots were fired by both sides, and nothing hit, horrible, reminded me of the a-team

They fired on the sg1 scout team cos the prior had already said they were enemies. They didn't kill them because some of the warriors doubted the prior.

The bad thing about Mitchell is that he's a direct replacment for O'Niell. Jonas had his own character but Mitchell is like O'Niell's younger brother. IT makes it hard for the actor to differentiate his character.

Stargate has a well established formula of hinting at a season story arc through several "filler" episodes. As a filler ep, this wasn't bad. But I think the formula is dated now, especially with BSG around.

It dosent help at all the the writers are using Bowers Farscape gimmick of have a TV reference with Mitchell every episode either. The whole "well done bones" was awful.

    Very very boring episode imo...

I noticed that two brothers thing in the credits aswell which really annoyed me... I completely agree it was a complete Last Samurai ripoff..

Ridiculous how SG1 can go anywhere and get shot at a load but barely ever get hit by the barage of weapon fire coming at them....

All the same complaints as above but in fairness, they do have to start pulling plots out of their ass and as far as season8/9 go, I think this one was farily decent.

The major flaw for me was how incoherent the Sodan were.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

I agree with pretty much everything that I've read above.

The sudden introduction of a new Jaffa sect, the Sodan, was a bit too much to swallow. Surely they would have been mentioned before if they were such great warriors and so into freedom. And for such independant people, they fall into the Prior trap pretty easily.

The brother thing was blindingly obvious, as was the Last Samurai influence. And just like a previous poster, I wondered why the Sodan had stayed balck and asian, instead of interbreeeding, especially after 5,000 years.

Mitchell has his work cut out to be a new lead character, but despite the dullness of this episode, I felt that it went some way towards establishing him as a better character. It's a case of slow and gradual improvement here, I suspect.

ditto Dudara. Though I did enjoy seeing the Cancer-Man from Xfiles again. Very recognisable actor.
