Russian Girlfriend?

At the start of this summer, I spent some time in Moscow with some friends. During my stay there I met the most amazing woman of my life - and we became very close, her attitudes are unlike anything I have ever come across in Ireland, and to be honest I find myself wanting a lot more. So I would like to invite her here for a holiday, and see if there is the potential for any more between us. Basically I need advice on the process, from anyone who may have done similar, or has a knowledge of the system in place.

Here is some more information for you:

I am 28, a reasonably successful company director, although she has no idea of this, I always keep details like this away from females I am interested in.

I am Scottish but have lived in Ireland since I was 11, and my business and employees are all based here.

I would like to bring her over for a month and see if we are compatable on a deeper lever. Before you form any opinions, I have no problems getting Irish/European women, and have had plenty more than my share :P This lady has something new for me, and I want to know more.

So what should I be aware of, has anyone any advice, or been through a similar situation?

    Thanks

    X

    For obvious reasons :P

i dated 1 russian and 3 eastern european women, about 2 years, all in a period of around 6 months.

i found all of them rude, the russian was the worst.

i know they're not all like that, but thanks to those gems, my opinion of these type of girls is bad.

how old is the girl in question, girls i dated were in their early 20's, maybe they've matured and copped on.

    i'd be wary myself.

I find that East European Languages are often spoken more direct then English. When its translated into English they can come across blunt and rude

Definately worth it. Eastern European women are very friendly in general in my opinion. They are quiet direct and you know more where you stand with them.

I would suggest to the post starter go for it. Its worth it. Normally eastern european women are a lot better than Irish women, I find them more pleasing, more open minded and generally nicer looking than Irish women. But then again Irish women are nice too.

worst thing is, having a relationship with a different nationality always has complications, can be easily overcome; but you can learn to forget them. For example, you might want to live in Ireland or Scotland when you get older but she might want to live in Russia(home is where the heart is) if you think its not a problem now, remember your views change as you get older so just plan in advance and test out the waters first :)

you could probably get advice from russianbrides.com, or from bubbles.

otherwise, dating a russian is probably no different than any other women, withthe exception that she is likely very poor and will invite her whole clan over to live with you if anything happens...

I have to say I agree with the above, having dated one girl from Ukraine when living in Germany a few years back and knowing a couple of other girls living here from Eastern Europe they can come across as quite blunt, and sometimes as downright rude. However, a lot of this can be put down to language and cultural differences and more often than not I've found that rudeness was not the intention.
As to the OP's question about bringing a Russian girl over on holidays, I did the same when I moved back to Ireland in that I invited the Ukrainian girl I'd met in Germany over on a 6 week holiday as a thank you for showing me all over Ukraine. The holiday visa application process was in my experience a long and ardous one, also quite frustrating at times. In the end, after her filling in the visa application with me as sponsor which required a letter from me stating how we met, my financial situation as well as assurances that I would be providing for her while here, in terms of accomodation, financial backing, cover in the event of illness etc etc, the application was rejected with no explanation given. The only way we actually found out why it had been rejected was I made an enquiry through my father who happens to have a friend in the Dept of Foreign Affairs. This was after 6 weeks of enquiries that were constantly met with it is still being processed etc. The actual reason given eludes me at present (it was 4 years ago), but in the end it was only through a personal recommendation from my fathers friend that it was finally granted!
Not sure if the procedure is still the same, only advice I can give is find out everything you can from the Dept of Foreign Affairs that's necessary, go over all your details with a fine tooth comb, and have lot's of patience! ;)
Other than that, best of luck and hope it works out for you.

    D

[edit] just remembered the reason it was rejected. As we originally met in Germany and her old passport with her visa stamped in it was gone (when passports are renewed in Urkraine you must hand the old one in, something to do with the blackmarket I think), they rejected it saying she had not provided enough evidence other than our word that we'd met in the EU. Of course we were not told this directly, only that it was rejected, it was only through my fathers contact that we actually got the specifics.

Go for it, but as DamoKen says, good luck with the Visa process. You'll be combed by the Dept. of Foreign affairs and you may run into difficulties if you don't hold an Irish passport, or if she has any anomolies on her passport.

However, since you're a company director, you can do it easily, just make it seem as if you're offering her a job. If she's coming over here into employment, they're much less likely to say no....

I know alot of Eastern European girls. I think really, out of a dozen of them, all of them are really both fun and friendly, and very interesting. All the ones I've come across are no different personality wise then Irish girls bar the obvious culture/accent etc.

As someone previous said, good luck with the visa! A friend of mine is Russian (illegal) and something I've learnt from her is this: the Irish government does not want Russians here.

The only way you'll be able to get her to stay is with a fiance visa or through marriage. And if you are considering any of these at this stage, you seriouosly need your head examined :)

However, helping her create a good life in Ireland would be a very noble deed...

Are you certain she isn't a prostitute? From the Russians I know, it's quite normal to work part-time as a prostitute...

Isn't that imposing at lot on someone? What happens her job if she takes a months holidays? Will she have to pay her way or will she have to be indebted to you?

I don't want to generalise, but most Russian girls see Western-guys as a way of getting a passport and can be very devious and mercinary.

Be leery, my best advice if you're asking her over to visit would be to let your close family and friends meet her and ask their opinion after she's left.

    Forest....trees...too close to...etc.

A possibly unfair way to put it. People are looking to survive.

well I think this thread is unfair towards russians. A bit biased.
I mean you think that they are leeching off western europe, I mean come on!! Who the hell wud live in Ireland or western europe? If i was russian and the money was good with what I was working with I would stay there, I wouldnt move to western europe, makes grounds for depression living here: the people, prices of things, roads, traffic in small towns on major roads.Just my opinion.
As for prostitutes, well I doubt very much they like some big mucker payin em for sex! Come on! Have some respect, its not like we're great and we have loads to offer them! No country has everything

The woman in question is nearly 23, and there are lots of similarities between our personalities, including a fairly unusual sense of humour :)

Victor, that was a good point you made about her coming here for a month - we are planning to do this during her break from college so she will have the time off from responsibilities in Russia. On the support side, I will gladly look after her, and in no way shape or form will that be any form of debt. As I said though, your point is well taken.

My real query is will there be a problem getting a tourist visa, as I am currently a UK citizen, although raised here, working here, paying (too much) tax here, and voting here. I cannot find any reference for a resident sponsored visa as opposed to a citizen sponsored visa?

As for Eastern European and Russians being rude; this has not been my experience - and I think there are gems in all societies, I just seem to have found a Russian one - LOL

Thanks for your advice so far,

    X

You must write a letter to the Irish Embassy in Russia. Fax it through too I reckon. To be honest your one over there may know more about this than you think, or at least know more about the process than you do.

I am a UK citizen and quite easily brought my Muscovite girlfriend over for 3 weeks to Ireland. There was a matter of risk only in that she would be denied a tourist visa (I can't remember the official name of the visa).

In the letter I stated that:

I am a UK citizen working here x years.
She would be under my supervision and I would be accomodating her.
I was responsible for any and all expenses that she may entail upon herself or 3rd parties.
I would make sure that the three weeks would not be extended in any way as her work in Russia was extremely important to her.
I am a successful businessman and simply wish for this charming person to see another side of the world as she has heard so much about Ireland's beauty etc.

All fine and dandy but she will need to go to the Irish embassy so tell her to check it out on her end, maybe things have changed since 3 years ago.

As for DublinWriter's views, I can't say they are correct but I can say that I had suspicions all throughout the relationship. Afterwards she relatively quickly got pregnant to someone else..

    RussianPer,

You send like a levelheaded bloke who's going into this with his eyes wide open. I've dated eastern European wmomen and found them to be a lot of fun. One was living here illegally and was genuine and honest and had actually knocked back several blokes (inc one I knew), so she just wasn't out for a passport.

    Good luck.

eastern europena girls are pretty hot while young but when they get old things tend to plumit down-hill.

russian brides are for life etc

On the contrary, I find Irish girls rude in comparison to other European girls, I think if you're not from Ireland they become stand offish (I'm not referring to Dublin here, my experience in general), they're quite base as well with their constant swearing and references to their genitalia (e.g. "I will in me hole" or "Did you get your hole last night?"). Go for it with the Russian girl, just ease off on the Visa process, have her on an extended holiday first, I wouldn't like to see you get stung over a Visa scam (pessimistic outlook, but hey)

Hehe, swearing is on a whole other plateau in Russia, that's about the only thing I can contribut.

The paranoia in some of the posts shocked me, but never mind. Go for it with the girl and try to trust her.
As for us being rude and the Irish being polite, it is a clash of different mentalities. Maybe those Eastern European girls you found rude, found you pretentious or unable to express what you really feel and think. We appreciate frankness and I am sure that noone intended to insult you. :)
