    My top 5 would be:

    1. The Arcade Fire @ Electric Picnic.
I had heard that they were good live, but I was also very nervous about how they would get the sound right what with all the crazy instruments and band members. They simply were the most amazing band Ive ever seen live, their presence on stage was Choir like and sent shivers down my spine for every song. I doubt another band could out do them.

    2. Interpol @ Oxegen
I had actually heard mixed reports about them being boring and dull on stage. Well those were dispelled a soon as they came on stage, The lighting was savage and they seemed shocked by the crowd who were going nuts! Legends, again another band who sounds better live than on CD, which is very rare these days.

    3. Bloc Party @ Oxegen
Love the album, loved them live. the crowd was well up for it. They didnt sound as tight as I expected but they were good on stage, fighting and messing with the mic stand guy, and of course you cant go wrong with smashing the shíte out of the stage after!

    4. LCD Soundsystem @ Electric Picnic
After being totally let down by them at Oxegen (Bloody crap soundsystem in the tent) It was a total shock how good they were, James must have spent about 20min on stage before the show checking the sound and they sounded very tight, Tribulations being the Highlight of the set, although that cover of the house tune "Throw" was pretty sick too.

    Goldfrapp @ Electric Picnic
I actually missed the start of this set, but holy crap what a finish! Dirty growling bass and her voice! Such a stage presence and the lighting was fairly savage. Converted me into a fan.

One song that does get a special mention was when Nancy from LCD came on stage with soulwax and did that version of "NY Excuse" (I think) pretty special in my books.....

    Sean.

    In no particular order

    Weezer Point
Managed to be as good as Vicar st with the added bonus of el scorcho

    Audioslave Oxegen
Songs I for one never expected to hear live.

    Arcade Fire EP
I dont like saying too much about this because its just a gig you had to be there for to understand just why it was so good. Great time to see them as a perfect mix of tracks from their album/ep

    Prodigy Oxegen
They really sorted themselves out after the mess that was 2002. Id seen them in the olympia at Christmas but Ive always enjoyed them ore at festivals.

    The Flaming Lips EP
Would have been even better if it wasnt so soon after Arcade Fire and clashed with Kraftwerk. 2nd song in Karaoke version of Bohemian Rhapsody and best damn stage show of the festival

    Beck in Olympia
Went expectin fun but got so much more!

    Arcade Fire at EP
I was so drained after it, every song felt like it's be the last they'd play and they gave it socks!

    Adam Green at Whelans
Great crowd and atmosphere, Really enjoyed his set! Legend!

    Sleater-Kinney at TBMC
I liked one or two tracks at the time, they were so cool live! since then been listenin to them more!

    Flaming Lips at EP
Now that was a happy friendly sing along set if i ever seen one! You couldnt help singing and smiling!

I've only been to Oxegen this summer but my five favourite acts were, in no particular order.

Foo Fighters- I love that they played most of their older songs, especially Everlong and My Hero, two of my favourite songs! Was in the pit, they put on an amazing show!

Bloc Party- Even though the sound was messed up they are a really good live band and i gotta agree you cant go wrong with smashing the stage after!

Audioslave- The band that I wanted to see the most and they didn't disappoint!! Great to hear some Soundgarden and RATM songs thrown in there!!

Kaiser Chiefs- Had heard their songs before Oxegen and thought they were pretty good, but they put on such an amazing show, which made me go out and buy the album! Really energetic band!

Snoop Dogg- I'm not a fan but I gotta admit he did put on a good show and really got the crowd involved.

Now roll on Staind Sept 19th :D

1 Coldplay Marlay: Blazing hot day few cold beers, Interpol supporting what more could ya want.

2 Go Team Oxegen: Was tired & drunk and I think theyre the only band that could have gotten me back in the festival mood.

    Couldnt have put it better.

And I totally forgot about snoop! I was very impressed with the fact that he had a live band too. I had been waiting a long time to see him too!

I also forgot about Weezer in Vicar St too, It was great seeing them after all this time, but it just wasnt as special as I had hoped. Aw well.

What a great summer for gigs.

George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars. Best concert all summer definately. Crowd were so up for it, band were amazing, the place was electric. Its just a pity those evil *beeeeps* at Vicar St. ended it so soon. still, soooo good! :D

Foo Fighters @ Oxegen - I've been waiting so long to see them live and finally my waiting paid off. Fantastic gig, they even played some really old stuff like This is a Call.

Audioslave @ Oxegen - Again, I couldn't wait to see them, seen as I've never seen Chris Cornell or RATM live before, this was a real treat!

Kaiser Chiefs - I'd never heard of their stuff before Oxegen but I really liked their gig so I'm a fan now!

Only went to 2 but they were two excellenct gigs.

First off there was the Iron Maiden/Marilyn Manson/Turbonegro gig in the RDS just last week, did'nt think much of turbonegro but was'nt really listneing to them, was busy running from stall to stall trying to get a decent t-shirt as most of the nice ones were gone :-\ Anyway Manson was good but not as good as i thought he might have been, thought he would have gotten the crowd going a bit more, but what you gonna do ;) And finally Maiden.....well they were excellent, even with some slightly dodgy sound at times they still rocked the RDS and they rocked it hard :)

The only other gig i went to this year was without a doubt the best gig i've ever been too and probably ever will go to and that was Rammstein. As they have never played here in ireland and probably wont do for the forseeable future i ended up heading over to wales with the gf for a weekend back in july. Got the ferry from rosslare to fishguard then a train from fishguard to swansea, stayed in swansea for the weekend with my gf's aunt then headed upto cardiff on the monday to see the gig. There was no supporting act on at all which was a little bit of a supprise but once the waiting was over they rocked the hell out fo cardiff. Even my gf who is'nt into their music or anything heavy at all managed to be very very impressed :) The setlist was fantastic, 8 songs from the new album reise reise and 3 songs from each of the other 3 albums, full of pure energy and german anger as you would expect from them :) and the pyrotechnics.....even though it was a small enough venue they did'nt let that stop them and flames were almost hitting the ceiling :) was disgusted i did'nt bring my digital camera, could have gotten it in easily, only brought a crappy disposable camera which ran out after about 6 songs....got a little snap happy ;)

Without a doubt the most expensive (with all the traveling) gig i've been to but was it worth it? hell yes it was i would pay twice that to go see them again. hopefully they will be back again next year and i'll head back to cardiff again or maybe i'll get lucky and they wil hit ireland :p

    1. Audioslave at Hurricane (North Germany)
A transformation since last time I saw them. Expecting a warmup to System of a Down, instead I got lots of Rage. The crowd went nuts and it was sooo good.

    2. Slayer at The Ambassador
An assault of a gig - really powerful stuff. Made Slayer on disc sound 2 dimensional. The tunes just kept coming! Machine Head's inspiration from Slayer suddenly became very clear to me. Think I cracked a rib at this one...

    3. System of a Down at Hurricane
Well, what can I say? System of a Down on terrific form, a huge crowd hanging on every song, knowing every word.

    4. Iron Madien at RDS
The set list was a bit weak, particularly in the encore, but it didn't matter a damn - Maiden played some fantastic stuff very well indeed. Hallowed Be Thy Name, Phantom of the Oprea and The Trooper were the just great.

    5. Rammstein
What a spectacular show. From the lifeboat-based crowd-surfing to the on stage roasting of band members, and with spectacular crowd backing, this one won't be forgotten in a while. Only disappointment was, no Engel...

Thanks for this but whats the original source of this? Sounds like a stream reencoded as an mp3 (and awful as a result). Id love to hear a direct encode from the radio 1 broadcast.

Best gigs I went to this year:

    Erasure @ Vicar Street
Tears for Fears @ Vicar Street
    Duran Duran in Birmingham
    Elton John @ RDS Arena

worst gig of the year was definitely Paul Di Anno @ Whelan´s.
I had high hopes and he totally ruined it by being a complete muppet.

why don´t yous send me a guest report to my website: www.concert-reviews.net ? I would appreciate it.
