Game problems

Basically, I can be playing a game fine, with no problems whatsoever for anything like 5-20 minutes, then suddenly the screen freezes, and the sound starts skipping, I justhave to re-set my computer to salvage things.

    AMD 1900XP chip
half a gig of DDR RAM
    Radeon X700 graphics card
Hard drive, and dvd burner less than a year old,
    second dvd drive workign fine
Sound Blaster Live sound card working fine

Have switched out all the switchable components for alternatives, but the problem persists regardless of my hardware configuration.

This can't be an OS/virus/software problem, since I formatted the whole system over last weekend, and re-installed everything, and yet still having this problem.

Beginning to think something on the motherboard may be snookered, any thoughts?

Have you checked that the system isn't overheating?

Google Speedfan, install the program and it can monitor the temps. If you find that it is overheating add some more fans, or get a new case.

i think this problem isnt half bad motherboard monitor
i think it saves the highest temp too so u can check after a crash to see if it had just overheated

If it is an overheating issue to save buying a new fan underclock the card a few mhz.
