Adding a Sata drive

    At the moment I have 2 IDE drives on my Abit IC-7 mobo and Im fast running out of space. I have to buy a new HDD and want to add it to the other 2 IDE's. If I buy a Sata drive is it just as simple as plugging it into the Sata connectors on the Mobo? Also what Sata's does the IC-7 support? Sata "2"?


    Any help would be great.

    If all your doing is adding it for storage, the if you just connect it up, power on, windows should see the drive upon startup (but it wont be visible in my computer). then go to computer management, format the disk.

    Sweet, ye its just for storage, Im bloody running out of space and Ive already got 250GB.

    Im just after seeing that my Mobo only supports Sata1, would a Sata2 drive still work? Obviously at the lower speed?

    As far as i know SATA1 drives arent compatible with SATA2 connectors, but hey i could be wrong!

    SATA2 drives can be used in SATA1 connectors, but not vice versa.
