hey ive got a xbox i wanna mod and i saw the xecuter 3 CE which looks good but i also saw the xecuter 2.6 CE, it said on kanection.co.uk they both work in all bios versions but theres quite a bit of price difference, X3 is £39.99 without solderless kit and X2.6 is £29.99 with a solderless kit.
is X3 best to go or does it really matter?

X3 is good because when flashed with an X3 bios, you have a dashboard and ftp server so you don't need a bootcd if you know what you're doing. Solderless adapters are muck and I don't recommend using one. They physically break easily.

save the cash, and your xbox warrenty, and softmod. i bought a 2.6 off kanection, good service, great chip, but softmods are the way to go. i only use the chip now to repair broken consoles.

i wasnt aware there was such a thing as a soft mod for xbox, do u have a link?
can u save the configuration to the harddrive or do u have to use the cd everytime u want to use it?

soft modding a box is not as easy as it sounds especially for people who are not too computer literate, the chip is good as you don't have to solder it and you can always return the box back to it's original state, also the chip does not respond well to "traveling" as it more than likely will come loose, and you can store a back-up bios on the chips memery banks, or so i've heard.

softmods are on the hdd, and are installed by a gamesave, not difficult at all, and they dont void your gaurentee.

have an xecuter solderless chip for the last 18 months and never had a problem with it. My xbox is always being moved around and probably shaken to bits when i've given a lend of it to friends. Just thighten the chip well and tape the switch on well and you will have no problems. IMO a solder chip isnt worth as firstly most ppl have never soldered before and secondly you have to buy a solder kit which you probably will never use again. Never used one of the nochip exploits but I've read about ppl having their xbox's ****ed up by new games updating the xboxdash and having to mess about with hotswapping and all sorts of stuff. Dont know if this is the case anymore but it put it off me anyways.

Softmods are the cheapest, easiest, and safest way to mod your xbox. ausb memory stick for €12 will work to transfer the save. instead o €40 plus for a modchip that voids your gaurentee

I modded my first console recently with the 2.6CE solderless kit. It took 20-30 minutes to fit the chip. Installing the bios took a minute or two using a cross over network cable. I used the Slayer 2.6 Evox Auto Installer to install the dashboard (takes 5 minutes). Afterwards I was able to update the console via FTP.

It takes 15minutes max to install a 2.6 fully. 20minutes for a 1.6 with LPC rebuild.
10-15minutes to flash the chip and another few minutes to install software, dashboard etc.

Soft-mods and hard-mods both get the job done, I just have a preference for physicality.
Pogo-pins and solder-less hard-mods are a waste of time. Don't be a pussy and go learn how to solder.
