SKY+ software update broke my Sky+

SkySince the update of the software yesterday my sky+ has been suffering intermittenly from ALL of the problems mentioned here

    http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=278045&page=2

I called Sky, they said not their problem but they will send an engineer out to fix it. And the best bit is they will charge me for the pleasure and make me take a day off work.

How can they break the machine with an update and then tell me its my problem?

If i could get NTL or chorus in my area i'd be gone in a flash

threatening to cancel Sky normally rduces the cost of an engineer to €0

    according to others experiences anyway

Does anyone know if the "Services - 4 - 0 - 1" option still work to reclaim lost disk space, since the EPG upgrade?
I have tried a few times and can't seem to get the correct menu to appear for the planner rebuild

are you getting a "disk full" message

i had to pull out the plug as it kept asking me to delete a non-existing recording

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭BraveDonut

No, I just realised that I have 'missing' space. Normally the planner rebuild works fine for this using the 4-0-1, but I can't seem to call up the menu

had a few recordings on today and they both failed.
it said technical fault, so i done one now on bravo and it worked but when i went back to live tv and back to the recording its said failed, and said no signal.
both the signal inputs are near full
    WTF??

I had most of the above problems on my Sky+ box after the upgrade, but a complete power down for five minutes seems to have restored normal working order......

The teletext on RTÉ1, RTÉ2 and TV3 seems to have disappeared on my Sky+. Still working through the aerial.

Also general performance time seems to have dropped significantly.

    Aertel working fine for me

My panasonic sky + box got the upgrade during the week, and immediately showed the live pause problems documented. I followed the advice of powering down, which worked, but only for 1 day! This evening, the whole thing started over again. (Live pause not working, failed recording which no one set...)

Very frustrated with Sky and can't face ringing them due to fore-knowledge that it will result only in raised blood pressure and stress levels!!

Also, I have absolutely no idea what number was used for the PIN - is there a way I can retrieve this?

It's the last 4 digits of your viewing card no. unless you changed it previously. You will have to ring Sky if that doesn't work.

Pace or thompson do the plus boxes

panasonic dont do sky+ and they dont do any more digiboxes either now for sky.

just noticed I've got the live pause problem too. Guess sky dont believe in testing before implementation

Yeah, I had the live pause problem too but powered off the box, repowered, and the problem was gone. Having read the thread about it on Digital Spy, it seems that this works for everyone but for some people the problem comes back after a day or two.

It does seem bizarre that Sky can spend so long testing the new software upgrade and not come across a problem that seems to be affecting so many people.

Having dealt with them over the years it does not surprise me at all.

I stand corrected Tony, was looking at the other digibox. The Sky + is a Pace.

I haven't had a successful record since the upgrade on Wednesday...well maybe one or two out of fifteen or so....the box keeps going down. Have to unplug it to get it back again. Recording says FAILED citing a Tecnicnal Fault.

Bar the odd missed recording I have never had any probs with my Sky+ box in over two years even with the 250GB upgrade.

The one thing I do religiously is put the box in standby every time I don't use it and always when I go to bed - I have never seen people say they do this and I wonder if it has anything to do with my bug free box?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 101 ✭✭navi_5445

Did a full reset of the box via the installer menu a while ago, purged all my recordings but it seems OK now. Well...I got one full recording to work.

This thread has gone very quiet - does that mean everyone has managed to sort out the problems caused by the last upgrade?

For my part, things have got much worse. Although live puase *sometimes* works, no recordings play back, at all. Seconds after starting, they all freeze, the box freezes up, and only multiple pushes of "back-up" brings back live TV. As it stands, I have no Sky+ to speak of at all.

Anyone else still going though this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 273 ✭✭Mredmond

Well tonight I've spent an hour on the phone to Sky, (40 minutes on hold); spoke to 3 different "engineers", who offered between them ideas ranging from, "If you hold on a few months, there'll probably be a fix available", to "you'll have to get a local installer from the ROI" (they didn't even offer to arrange this for me).

In the end, I said I would rather cancel than pay for an Installer to fix something that Sky broke, and for which I pay a monthly sub.

Manny said, fine I'll put that cancellation through now and send you out the letter. No arguments, no persuasion. Subscription cancelled.

Not too bothered as I'm moving house in a few weeks and was going to do so anyway in order to take out new sub and avail of 80gb Sky+ box - now though, I think I'll look at my options and enjoy the extra €79.50pm!

    mine is still knackered.
Sky are less than helpul as are they at digitalspy forums.

I'm about to cancel the whole sky package at this stage.
The box is next to useless

what do you expect them to do?

Sky possibly could be expected to NOT CHARGE people for callouts to fix what they have broken with their new software.

Or how about they fix the live rewind\pause problems?

Or maybe even provide the service people pay them for.

Or god forbid, treat people properly when they call about a problem the day after an update.

    Sorry,
I could have constructed this sentence a little better.
What i meant here was that Sky are less than helpful to me and also to those at digitalspy. :)
