just snag the klite codec pack.
it has everything you need to play the most common media types. (grab the mega codec pack if you can find it. quicktime and real alternative are seckseh)

klite codec pack or divx total pack, you're just missing a codec that's all!
    :)

What you need a player that has lots of codecs already built in. Something like VideoLAN.

If your looking for a nice and basic player, with problems like above chances of arrising again are next to none, I suggest using VideoLan as the_syco suggested. Tried and tested - and given my kiss of approval! :P

If those solutions dont work, post back and maybe we can help further :)

Exactly don't bother with the Klite codec pack VideoLan will play practically anything including the violin.
