This is going to be class. Are you allowed to wear Gis of any colour?

The rules only allow white, blue and black AFAIK.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

    Yup
Colours may be black, white or blue, no combined colors (white kimono with blue pants, etc.)

Are the divisions done by time training like the NSC, or are they by belt?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Rules on the site state by belt Tim.. I'd say it's going to be by belt/weight.

Hmm, so if I bothered to read the website then maybe I wouldn't have to ask silly questions... interesting idea ;)

John, just for reference, selecting the absolute division, you still compete in your standard weight division aswell as normal right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭john kavanagh

    correct!

Poor excuse! I only bought a gi a few weeks ago and I'm entering!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Me too Tim! I only bought my gi about 2 months ago and the only time I've actually used it is in Roger Gracie's for a week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

FINE! Tell you what, somebody recommend a good Gi for me to buy and I'll go in if I can bust some moves between now and then ;)

Must have cool patches n stuff.

Must have cool patches n stuff.
    Of course!! :D

I'd presume unless you are planning on doing a lot of gi work then the differences between a judo one and a bjj one are small. That said, what do I know about it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

Yeah, but what if I get a crappy Gi and decide I like the game, then I gotta go get a good one. Then I'd have two, and I wasn't really bothered getting one. Ah well, Time for another topic...

Roper, atama gold weave.. Pics are in your other thread. I have one and I love it.. Anyone I know in BJJ has one and loves it.

    hey guys

if you want a printable version of the online registration form to print it out and give it out to guys in your club that might not be 'internet friendly' but would still like to enter the competition please email me at irishbjjopen@gmail.com

they need to have it to me by wed oct 19th to be in the draw

already have a number of white, blue and purple belts registered :D

weight divisions will be single elimination style but the absolute will be double elimination which will give you at least 2 matches

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Don't worry, I'll probably only have one fight too :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭john kavanagh

er, i must not have made myself too clear...

if you enter your weight plus the absolute division (included in your 20euro entry fee) then you would have a MINIMUM of 3 matches. 1 in your weight and 2 in the absolute - hope that clears it up :)

    "Did you get my entry"

that'd be difficult to answer unless you give me your name ;)

-61 without gi, i think its -65 with gi? Ill have to check that again. All I know is I have to lose a little bit of weight. We can roll before the event if you like for a warmup. :)

entries in, brackets done......+90 competitors.....44 in the white belt absolute division:eek:

    see yah tomorrow!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Well that was a complete waste, work wouldn't give me the day off even after saying they would. Can't get a day off to get a driving license, can't get a day off to enter a bjj competion.. What's next? Having to pull a sickie for my own funeral? Gob****es the lot of em.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

Well it was a great competition anyway.

Good match ups, good atmosphere, efficiently run.

    Nice work John, well done.

Why? I bet you won and are demanding recognition. From a third party of course.:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 334 ✭✭TwoKingMick

I wasn't there. My knee is still nicely buggered from last saturday so i have to stay away from that ground nonsense. So its just genuine curiosity. Now; i demand an apology.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

Unreservedly, unequivocally, and un.... something-elsedly, I apologise for my errant comments.

I wouldn't have done if it wasn't for your new signature picture. It's like you're watching me typing.........

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 334 ✭✭TwoKingMick

And, as you can now tell, I'm not havin' that!

All credit to joe reilly and jim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

I don't know all the results so I won't post. John probably has them but since he's off to battle Hurricanes in Florida we mightn't see them for a while, unless Clive has them?
