I'm having some problems with the hard drive on my Dell Inspiron laptop - the machine won't boot up because it can't read the hard drive. Hopefully it is just loose but on the other hand, it could be goosed ..

So i'm just wondering if anyone knows of any place that does Data Recovery - I haven't fully back up the drive and there are a few things that I don't want to lose.

Anyone able to suggest any place that might do this ?

I had a similar problem with my inspirion, i just removed the drive and re-seated it, and it works fine!

Give it a go you have nothing to lose!

You could try plugging the drive into a desktop using a 2.5"-3.5" IDE adapter (~€10) or a IDE USB cable (~€17 delivered from eBay, very useful things.)

    Thanks Guys

I actually removed the hard drive last night and reseated it but the problem persists. And this problem did actually start happening after the laptop crashed ( it starting making strange noises and then I got the infamous blue screen of death ), so I think it could be screwed ....

I'll try that trick with the IDE adapter ...... I've nothing to lose anyway

Or buy one from Komplett: http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=103373&cks=SER

    €13 to buy, €10 delivery.

Then use a program like @Active File Recovery to get your data off the disk.

If you can't find one easily and can pick up and drop back in Dublin you can borrow one from me. If it is mountable as a secondary drive in another system you may be able to get the data off it.
