I'm a Dublin girl who is bursting to get out of this city. I want to move to either Sligo or Kerry.

But I need to know - is there much work in Sligo town? I do administration. And is it difficult to get construction work there?

I'd really appreciate somebody filling me in on the situation over there, because I have no idea at the mo.

    Thanks.....

You want to move to Sligo?!
Most people I know from Sligo are permanently trying to get out of there!

If you're going to the northwest, come to Letterkenny - it has grown so quickly that most of the people here aren't natives anyway - its friendly and houses are cheap.

However, it is a long way from anywhere....

A lot of construction work going on in both Letterkenny and Sligo at the moment.

I wouldn't say LK is a long way from anywhere. There's a fair few buses going to and from Dublin with McGeehan's and Bus Eireann. Biggest downfall is possibly the lack of a rail track anywhere near the town.

Kate, you should go into easons on a friday and have a look through the Regional papers section and pick up the local rags ie Sligo Champion, Donegal Domocrat, Donegal Leader (i think thats what it is called, no doubt i will be corrected :) ) and scan though the local appointments.

Also you may want to pick up the Leitrim Observer, it is just beside sligo and may have oppertunities also.

Another suggestion is go and visit the area and see what you think, both sligo and letterkenny are good places but both have their downsides, as does tralee, killarney, dublin etc.

Get a feel for the place, but with either location, sligo/kerry, you will find a huge difference in the standard of living as compared to dublin.

Let us know how you get on and keep us posted

lettekenny is a growing town, and construction is going there! lots of cranes fill the skyline! but i would personnaly prefer sligo,

it depends as well on the type of construction, houses or biger?

There is a HUGE amount of construction around Sligo at the moment, between shopping centres, roadways, housing developments etc. South Sligo/Leitrim is in a rural renewal area which means there are tax incentives if you buy a house there (possibly a reason to opt for it). You get to allow the cost against your taxes for 10 years (provided you live there)

For jobs listings, you could also try the Sligo Weekender Newspaper for job postings

Or try any of these recruitment sites to get an idea.

I know I was mad to get out of here 10 years ago to go travelling etc. but delighted to be back and most of my friends are looking for a way out of Dublin and would junp at the chance to move back.

Sligo/Kerry/Donegal all have their charms and it really depends on what you're looking for in a move. They all have beautiful scenery. Personally I find Kerry is flooded with tourists whereas Sligo Donegal have a lot more breathing room. I was swimming at a beach in North Sligo a few weeks ago, it's 4 miles long and there were 5 people on it. Don't worry, there are people in Sligo, it's just easy to avoid them if you choose... ;)

I wouldn't rave about Sligo town but it is coming on, lots of development, two new nightclubs opening in Sligo in the next while, two new shopping centres,

Your choice really depends on what you're after. what is it? if you don't mind me asking that is...
