Rf out to antenna in problem

Something is puzzling me.I connected a DVD recorder up to my tv using the usual scart lead - worked ok.The tv recieved the normal tv channel signals and also the film that was on the disc,(by the way i have tried this on other players as well with the same result),but if i disconnect the scart lead and just use the rf out to arial in lead and then try to tune the tv in to watch a film it will not find the signal when im in the play mode. But if i connect my sky box up this way without the scart lead i have no problem at all picking up the signal. Is there a difference in frequencies between dvd and sky or could it be differences in certain types of players because my tv picks up normal channels ok when there is a direct signal in.Has anyone got any answers to this dilema,or am i doing something wrong.
    cheers al

It's unlikely the DVD player has it's output on the RF out - can't say I've seen any that do. The loop-through is there to feed the incoming RF signal to the recorder tuner, and then "pass it on". The Sky box does have it's own RF on the loop-through which is why you can tune it in.
