for a pentium 2 maybe - a p111 is capable of still running most of the stuff around today though would need decent ram, graphics/sound card for any heavy use in those areas. but yeah of a good mate I suppose that would be a reasonable price (70yoyo's that is). :)

Unless you have a buyer then dont hold out hope that you'll sell it anytime soon.

I say keep it and use it for spare parts or mabye as a spare internet only computer???

ah right I'm with you now.. sorry misunderstood you there....sold a p2 for 100 the other week. Place near me is doing p111 550's for like 350yoyo's reconditioned (Including crt monitor). Meaning they format/re-install/do a basic hardware check etc. so depending on what your prepared to do to it to make sure it works and is stable.

    private sale 250-300yoyo's
    to a mate - 150-200yoyo's (as i said first).

For a machine like that with say 512kmb of ram, reasonable graphics/sound card, format/re-install and a bench test I'd ask around the 250 mark.

    :)

scanner? I'd bloody give the monsters away - hate them lol ...

mate had one once - only way to install the bloody thing was to switch the pc to some foriegn lsanguage pack like phillipines/do the install/then switch back to english. Seriously!

Obviously that was awhile back but scanners have given me more headaches than I know.

but yeah sounds ok - I'd just chuck it in with the deal though myself. On new buys I generally chuck in a cheapy printer/scanner with the deal. (If it's over 850yoyo's or so).

like I say depends on what your willing to do with it to make it saleable in the first place and still put a few beer tokens in yours and your mates pocket.

    :)

Ok thats rubbish....sorry tomco but its not worth more then about 90-100. Don't let smeggle get your hopes up. A few weeks ago here on boards I got a 400mhz machine for 25 euro.

I've seen P3-733mhz sell for 100 and in and around that for most pc's of that spec.

As for a business selling reconidition 550's for 350 euro, for an extra 70 quid you'd get a 2.6ghz, 512ram machine from dell. Any idiot who bought a P3 at that price deserves to loose out big time.

With the monitor and scanner, you'd get about 100 for it. It's not really worth any more then that, unless you purposely go out trying to find someone stupid who knows not a thing about computers to rip off.... :p

enm how rubbish? Dell do a pc for 420 but then you need to add shipping and vat - another 80-100. Then you'll need to add on for a half decent sound/graphics card. Only bonus is it will probably ship with oem xp home, but your 420 has allready gone up to 550-600euro.

I've seen p3's sell for around 150euro but then thats without anything done to them.

A refurbished p3 with say a sound blaster 5.1 card, basic 128mb graphics card and os (Remember you need to put a Licenced 'Legal' OS on a machine if you sell as a business) so no 350euro for a p3550 with that lot included is not a rubbish price nor would be anyone being an idiot buying at that. Or do you condone the illegal re-sale of an Operating System as a business?
I probably should mention as well it does depend where you are and obviously in a City/Urban area prices will reflect but even then you should still be making around 200euro for a machine like that after resetting and refurbishing as nessessary.

So lets see you get a machine for zero, upgrade it's ram to 512mb (Min 256mb is needed these days anyway), add a basic sound/graphics card @ 100euro max and an OS (say windows 98) @ 50euro for the licence - so yeah 200-250euro is about right..I'd say..

    :)

id prefer to talk more about yoyo's to tell you the truth, i'd find it a lot interesting than your rants anyway smeggle!

So your saying the PC could sell for about 350 -450 yoyo's so if he upgrades it, erm interesting! :)

But it could be a dangerous game investing his own yoyo's in it, what if the cost of the upgrade parallels with the cost of the sell on price, then you have F**K all yoyo's left!

First of all, that pc price I mentioned from dell INCLUDES delivery and vat. And ffs, who wants a 600mhz machine with 128mb graphics? I mean cop on! If anything runs on 600mhz, its not going to need anything more then a 64mb card at absolute best.

Second of all, 2nd hand pc100 ram costs about 20 a piece. You'd upgrade it to a 64mb, 512ram 600mhz machine and at the end of the day its still a 600mhz that can only play ancient games from 2002.

So, tell me how you justify 400? As I said, for 430-470 INC del. and vat, you'd get a 2.4 ghz machine.....slightly better then 600mhz. ;)

Moral of story - you might rip off some redneck with such an outrageous price, but any one with any clue of computers who paid anything remotely near 350 for a p3550 - and thats a guarantee.

Note - rant not directed at anyone in particular.

    What?

You're adding bits of hardware to it and an OS and now calling it a refurbished system...

This is not what the OP is getting.

I seriously hope you don't actually sell computers to people.

    huh? where'd I say 350-450euro

    I said

    private sale 250-300yoyo's
    to a mate - 150-200yoyo's

The reason behind that is I'm advising the install of a 'LEGAL' System. Thats going to cost you 50-100euro (If your not a dealer of course).

The business I spoke of does that, upgrades the ram to a minimum 256mb ram, also monitor is serviced and refurbished as nessessary and also a 6mnth guarantee. 350euro is a reasonable price for that imo and as it is not aimed at the 'Gaming' market playing 2002 games is more than adequate.

As you say you can add on an extra few bob and get a 2.4 from Dell but for someone just starting with computers who wants a reasonably 'Legal' option with guarantee there doing quite a good service.

Personally I sell them cheaper myself and give a guarantee of 3mnths but then I'll only chuck in a very basic sound/graphics card and a 'Legal" windows 98. thats going to cost about 175-200euro depending on monitor.

Still as well it does depend on location as well and just how far your willing to stretch the 'Legallity' issue of installing a operating system.

and who's ranting? I'm simply explaing that there are some issues that you are missing out of the equation - Like Legallity stuff? Or as I asked earlier doesn't anybody care about that?

    :)
