I like rum. I started drinking it again recently, after a long absence, and can't imagine why I stopped for so long.

I typically prefer dark rum, maybe with some coke. It just has a really dark, warming sweet taste to it that really appeals to me. Just the other day I tried some Morgan's Spiced Rum, much lighter and smooth enough to drink neat, and the spice gives it a pleasant aftertaste. Lovely with a dash of white lemonade.

Anyone want to recommend a few brands or rum-based drinks for me?

    Morgan Spiced & White TBH

A pricey drink though, and still inferior to a good Powers & Red...

    Morgan Spiced & White TBH
    Too right, or straight
Hate this killing of quality spirits with coke. Its like getting a nice vintage champagne and pouring in tesco value orange juice to make bucks fizz.

it is pretty cheap in the offy, only pubs charge a lot for no reason at all.

    whiskey/rum chalk/cheese

?! Most good pubs will have Morgan Spiced - I don't know where you'll find it in Off Licenses, but I'm sure its out there...

Stuff really is magic, very sweet, you really can just drink a bottle of it neat, doesnt seem strong at all :D. Actually that probably makes it dangerous :) .

    Seadog dark Jamaican rum.
    Straight,
with a dash of black current,
with ginger ale ( dark and stormy)
or as replace ment for light rum to make a caribean iced tea
    or in caribean coffee.

I quite like it neat myself, or with a very, very small dash of lemonade.

    Very small.

Following the recommendation of Rum and Ginger Ale, I tried Whiskey and Ginger Ale the other day. Powers & Ginger > Powers & Red.

Ginger ale & whiskey is pretty common. I dont think C&C do red anymore so most pubs are serving you the dreaded Taylor Keith red (wouldnt clean my drain with it).
Never understood the whole "red" thing, I think at one stage c&c red may have tasted different to their white, I cant tell a difference in the 2 TKs, both vile. Whiskey and a good schweppes white.

If you can get a hold of it get some aged cuban rum, seven year old, it's lovely, a dark warm rich spirit, sort of like a smart smooth almost brandy like quality. Got a bottle of it a few years back, and hopefully my slack sister will bring me back another bottle in a few weeks. It's wonderful neat.

That's not true at all - here in Donegal, if you ask for Whiskey and Red you get a whiskey with ice and they hand you the C&C red to pour your own. They don't usually have ginger ale up here though...

I can definitely taste the difference between red and white, I don't really like whiskey and white, it just doesn't taste right (and it looks like piss).

    mmmm rummm
It may not sound good but Ive recently got a bunch of people hooked on this combo:

Diet pepsi and morgans coconut rum....more rum less pepsi
its very smooth and tasty. ;)

as a Bartender Ive come up with many many concoctions of my own...Some recipes I just cant part with though :)

Ooh, my brother went to Lanzarote recently and came back with a local rum drink mixed with honey. Very sweet and sticky, and around 30%, so not really for mass consumption (I found it hard to drink the quarter measure I poured for myself), but it makes for a lovely few sips after a meal.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about something else there.
And I think you have mixed up your proper nouns and verbs.

Yes I blend some myself. Do it small first and remember you can always add more honey, but you cant take it out.
Fill a small naggin and put in some clear honey and put it in a pan of hot water with the cap on. Let it heat and shake it well. Makes nice shooters.

I freaking love that stuff, we used to get free shots of it after dinner in whatever restaurant we were in, it's called Artemi (could have just been that particular brand), brought home three bottles of it.

Can't really get anything as nice here though.

The week before halloween i stumbled across the drink itself. Mixed it with Coke. Powerful stuff altogether. Whole ten-glass bottle gone in an hour. I was in some shape.
