I went to one of these last year after I had three bikes stolen inside 12 months. Have to say it's an absolute joke if you are looking for a half decent bike for a moderate price.
I know my bikes as I used to run a repair shop but there were piles of absolute crap going for like 50 and 60 euro. People were just going nuts with no bidding limit and didn't seem to have any idea what they were buying. Most stuff that was sold for 50 and 60 euro required extensive repairs costing at least another 20 to 30 euro at Dublin prices.
Half decent bikes were that worth about 160-180 brand new were being sold for 120-140 and weren't even in that good of condition.
On the other hand if you are after a top of the range bike there are some good deals to be had. Bikes worth 800-900 new were being sold for around 350-400 therefore if you are prepared to splast out on a good bike at a highly discounted price then there's value to be had.
Another area I found interesting was that they had two piles of bikes throw in the yard which where being auctioned off as two lots. There were between 30 and 50 bikes in each lot ranging from pure junk to some pretty good top line bikes. If you had a shop or a means of selling and repairing some of these you could make quite a bit of money as the lots were sold for something like 300 and 400 euro.
Perhaps I was just there on a bad day but beware the value is really only in the top end line of bikes.

I have been to a fair few of these auctions, and like the previous poster said, they seem to have very few bargains. Fairly useless bikes seem to sell for a lot more than they are worth (I think people get a little carried away by the whole auction). Also loads of people come to the viewing and the auction (all of them thinking they are going to get a bargain) so if there are any good bikes hidden amongst the others, you won't be the only one to know about them:)
