I'm thinking of selling my desktop PC. How much do you think it's worth?

    Dell Dimension
    Pentium 2.4Ghz
    1 Gig RAM
    80 Gig HD
    64MB GeForxe MX420 (I think)
    DVD/CD Burner
    Zip Drive
    Floppy Drive
    Firewire card
    Network card
    Dell 17" Monitor

    Cheers

I say you would get the €500 if the cd/dvd burner was dual layer multi format. Is the monitor TFT?

nope, it's a standard CRT monitor. The PC is about 2.5 years old.

I was thinking €400-€500 would be about right

    cheers

You'd have difficulty getting €400 for it here, imho

But I might be wrong, we shall see when you put it up for sale :)

It cost me about €1700 I think.....just shows you how much PC's devalue over time!

I'm looking to offload it and buy a laptop. Anyone have any experience of the Dell XPS gen 2? (should probably start a new thread on that)

The main problem is the Graphics card. A geforce 4 mx in a 2.4ghz, 1gig ram machine is an utter waste of good resources.

Stick either a Radeon 9700 or 9800 in it and you'll jump from a crap last gen pc that won't play any new games to a decent pc that will play Battlefield 2.

With a change of gfx card, you'll get about 500 for the package.

Or off boards, about 600...or even more.

i dont think it is ever a good idea to buy a part for a PC just to improve its price slightly, you'd be better of selling it on as it is and not tempting fate by buying a better graphics card and then finding out that you're actually losing more money!

I don't think I'll add anything to it, I'll just let it go as is and the new owner can upgrade if they want.
