Well done to the members of the first Atienza Kali training group in Europe, you all did a fantastic job this past week. Ireland is the launching pad for Atienza Kali in Europe and there are alot of guys in Europe looking to get what we have, so keep up the good work, drill those evolutions and isolate each entry, and we wil spar when the training group meets up each month.
On behalf of the training group i would like to thank Guro Carl Atienza for taking the time to come over and train with us and we look forward to seeing him in january.
Anyone interested in Atienza Kali should check out http://www.atienzakali.com or http://www.seamaacademy.com

MAJOR thanks are due to Dave, Joanne and all the galway lads not only for organising and running with this thing, but also for their hospitality, feeding (yum yum :D ) chaffeuring bodies around and generally making sure everyone was looked after, it was very much appreciated. See y'all next month

    Then theres guru carl... wow:eek:

    Chamon brothers!
the weekend was a stone cold killa groove or whatever it is that the younger generation are using these days! 2 days of top class instruction from a man who talks the talk & walks the walk, exceptional instructor! Huge thanks to the Joyces for the total hospitality overkill and the rest of the Galway crew particularly Dave G for acting as personal chauffeur to the jaysers and then stealing our bags! 2 days in the same jox is no fun! See ye all in October and roll on Guro Carl's next visit!

    Lads,

Sounds like you had a blast!!

Can you give a break down of what ye got up to in the training sessions (I'm sure there were other types of sessions :D ).

Hi Paul I'm not at liberty to speak about the private lessons Aran and myself had with Guro Carl, but the training group has to do 8 hours training minimum each time he comes broken down into whatever time slots suit. As we are all in different parts of the country we did a 3 hour session on Saturday and then 5 hours on Sunday. The first days training involved learning the Evolution (I suppose you could refer to it loosely as a type of drill) for the hand assistor (a small knife like a folder for example) and isolations from the Evolution. Day 2 concentrated on long blade with our group doing really well and learning the whole Evolution along with isolations from the same. It may not seem like much, but apart from the amount of physical information, which believe me was comprehensive, there was a lot of experience (on Guro Carls part of course) strategies and knowledge also passed on. We were to do Mass Attack but ran out of time so this will be one of the subjects when he returns next January.

    Cheers for that Dave ;)

Maybe it's because I haven't had a lot of sleep last night and I'm not reading this right but why wouldn't you be allowed talk about the private?

Ahhhh, no reason other than what I stated, that it was private training. Like what most people take when they are fortunate enough to have the chance/opportunity to train with someone of this kind of level.

Great job on the training group, Dave! Hehe. I'm pretty sure it was an awesome training for everyone. Can't wait to hear the stories from Guro Carl. Also I'd like to welcome the new guys to AK! Looking forward to meeting everyone there in Ireland in the future.

    Keep on training!

Is Kali all stick & knife or is there empty hand as well?

Is Kali practiced so that he in real attack situation, you skills could help you defend with an improvised weapon? ( eg rolled up newspaper)?

what would be your main training goals with Kali?

    Cheers

Atienza Kali uses blade, stick & knife. We have empty hands.

Yes, the techniques could be transferred to other "improvised" weapons. We train based on the blade as the mechanics of blade use are far more complex & makes it easier for the student to change up from blade to stick. This way of training also teaches the practitioner to be always on point as we always assume one or more of our attackers has a blade at the very least thus, the proper response to armed attack.
what would be your main training goals with Kali?
Your training goals would be to be able to defend against armed attackers (no firearms).

I don't know if you're around Dave's area but it if you are, it would be a good idea to attend one of many future Atienza Kali seminars in Ireland. It would give you a clear picture of what the Atienza Kali system is all about.

Thanks Ferdie for the info. I am in dublin however I think it would be a good idea for me to take a seminar in this year at some stage.

If JKD guys in USA do kali, then it must be good!

No prob, Millionaire! I'm pretty sure the Ireland crew would be looking forward to train with you. Heck, everyone's welcome! In the meantime, you might want to visit the website: www.atienzakali.com . Lots of information there about the system & some pretty cool vid clips. :D

Hey, those JKD guys move fast, man!

Hey Millionaire ditto to what Ferdie said visa vee the site. Theres a lot of stuff there including downloads of the guys in action as well as a helluva lot of information (general and very specific) about the system and also survival in the street on the forum. Let us know what you think.

if you stuck for a place to run your next seminar in dublin just give us a shout dave

also as a matter of interest i've not had a chance to look at those clips (connection too slow) but is there any of 'mass attack' such as 1 guy fighting 3 etc?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 105 ✭✭Ballisong

Thanks for the offer of the gym, we really appreciate the offer. The European Atienza Kali web page is still under construction but when it's up and running we will have clips of mass attack training and more. But you should check out http://www.atienzakali.com they have a number of clips including mass attack, which are definatley worth looking at. Try downloading them if you find your connection is to slow, thats what we orignally had to do. Hope that helps.

Hi John thanks for the offer. I think Aran has answered everything, I've been slow off the mark as I'm licking my wounds after last Sunday!! And btw Paul O'Leary or Dudara or any of the other "rebels bhoy" do not need rub anymore salt into already tender wounds. :p
