Getting from Dublin to Wicklow town and back?

I'm in south Dublin (Rathfarnham area) and I need to get to and from Wicklow town a couple of days next week. Now I'm not familiar with where Wicklow town even is or how far it is - is it the sort of thing I could get a DART to Bray and grab a taxi or would that be a massive distance?

Any idea what transport options are available?
    Cheers/

You could get the DART to Bray and from there, get the green commuter train that goes to Wexford. It stops in Wicklow. It only goes three times a day though.

there is a train to Rosslare in the mornings that stops in Wicklow - you can get on at Connolly, Tara, Pearse, Grand Canal, Sydney Parade, Blackrock, Dun laoghaire, Dalkey or Bray.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't seem like an easy place to get to...

There is a direct train at 0733 from Tara Street - Get the 0650 15B/15C to Fleet St. (usually arrives at 0715-0720), and a very brisk walk to Tara St or the 0630 16A/0645 16 to Westmoreland Street.

Alternatively take the 75 that leaves Knocklyon Road at 0625 to Dun Laoghaire and catch the above train at 0753. You'd have 30 mins to spare - the next bus goes via Sandyford Ind. Estate and might not make it in time.

Later trains leave Connolly at 1203, 1335, 1725 and 1835.

Buses leave Busarus for Wicklow at 0700, 0830, 0900 and then regularly throughout the day. You could take a 17 to the Montrose and join them there as an alternative.

Trains return from Wicklow at 0734, 0937. 1458, 1531 and 2104. Take them to Connolly and return on whichever bus suits.

Check out www.buseireann.ie for times of buses.
