Right, I've asked paypal and tried it myself, but I can't find anyway to lodge money into paypal from a credit card. I've heard people here say they've done it. Could you please explain how you did this without setting up a second account ?

You do not lodge money from a credit card in Paypal, you pay for each transaction through your credit card.
