    Hi,
I'm looking to get a pair of Shure E4 Headphones and came across this page on Ebay with a "We will beat any price" offer. The seller has 100% positive feedback.

Basically, they can not advertise a price lower than the manufacturers recommended price so they say make an offer.

Has anyone every done this type of deal on ebay before (besides bidding of course as this is a buy it now item)? Better still, has anyone ever bough from idealsound?

I'd be interested to get some feedback on this:)

€300 seems really high for headphones. They must be amazing.

$300 for headphones? Yeah.. serious money for serious earphones :o Hopefully it will work out at only around €150 though, other online stores sell them for about $190+shipping so hopefully I can get these guys down a bit.

optiplex, don't you mean "interesting shure make an offer and see where it goes" wha wha wha?? no? oh..

I'm sorry but €300 for headsphones?! They'd wanna cook you dinner and give you head afterwards for that price!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Well not quite but they do let me listen to music with great pleasure and I take great pleasure in listening to music with great pleasure:D

They wont be $300 anyway, about €150 I'd say.. does that make it any better? :p

Hmmmmm.. you pay €20 - €30 for decent ones so i guess if they are really that good!

It stuns me to think that they could possibly be worth that much but then again.. i love my music and i need great headphones for it too!

While we're on the subject.. a little story for ya: I bought a pair of Sony headphones in my local record store - they were packaged in a old tape cassette case with 2 AA Philips Batteries (yes.. i remember the specifics). Only cost me about £5 when i bought them.

They were, without doubt, the best pair of headphones i've ever owned! Lasted me ages (i listen to iPod every day for at least an hour - hour and a half) and then recently, the right earphone stopped working.

Went in to enquire about them - they were £20 headphones that Sony were taking off the market. Can't get them anymore! :(

... so, $300 or not... nothing will ever match my £5 Sony Headphones! :(

Ah you poor thing. I have odd shaped ears, well I must anyway, because no regular earphones will fit in my ears. I need the canal ones, they are so much better anyway, you should have a go if you ever get the chance, see what you think of them. I know when I got a pair of these:
    234.jpg

I thought they were the best thing ever... then when I got a pair of these:
    Black_Fontopia_HeadphonesMDR-EX71SL-resized200.jpg

I thought they were the best thing ever, and getting them was a big step up. €50 for a pair of earphones I thought was madness.. it is... but they are sooo much better.

so now I'm looking forward to these babies..

It's a big step up.. I wonder will I ever go back to a cheaper pair after experiencing these.. I probably wont.. :o

My ears are quite oddly shaped also! I rarely can find a pair of earphones that fit comfortably on me. I've been using the earphones i got with my Archos AV400 recently - and they're horrible! Might try and get a decent pair tomorrow!

But these are actually quite close to my beloved headphones (:D):

    38_1_b.JPG

.. the one thing i always look out for is that they don't bulge out at the top, or have like a bulging ring around the top of each of them.. a sign that will either cause me great uncomfortableness or i'll get pure bass admitted into my ear! Not good!

Even though I've broken 3 pairs of the sony fontopias, I'd still recommend them as a starter for canal phones, you wont want to turn back once you try them. Worth splashing out on a pair I think. Or have a look and see if there are any other canal/sound isolating pairs. I think Philips have a few pairs out, creative do even. Have a look in Dixons, I saw a few canal phones there before. Tis getting late, g'night:)

Steer clear. Come as standard with Sony HDD players...no bass, screechy treble and distort at high volume. If it has to be non-canal phones then try sennheiser mx range...

    Cormie try this place:
    http://store.earphonesolutions.com/she4bneweafo.html

they have the e4c for $199 and are likely more trustworthy than an eBay reseller.
I got my e3s from there....couldn't justify the extra 100 bucks at the time for the e4s

Hi thanks for that, I knew about them but their prices are too high compared to others. The ebay reseller is well known upon the headfi.org community as a great seller. They also opperate discountheadphones.com
Our Sister Company, iDealSound on eBay. Browse. Buy. Listen!
We have a 100% Satisfaction Record on eBay!
    Search live auctions now.

So should be trust worthy enough:) and if I can get the best price with them I'll definitely go for it:) I'm trying to narrow that extra $100 gap as much as possible with the E4's over the E3's;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

Except the gap is only $55 now....I have mine a fair while, and I can't see you finding the e4s for much less than $199. Heck prove me worng, but the eBay guy has to cover listing fee and paypal comission, plus he's a tenner more for postage.

If you're hellbent on buying from him why not fire off a few eMails to successful buyers on the Accepted Offers list to ask how much they offered...that'll give you a ballpark.

The sony fontopia earphones amazing bass just is fantastic but they are the flimisiest pair ever the chord is really thin rubber or something ****e like that. I was going to but a pair of Shure E2c but had no money, if only they made the fontopias with a bit better build quality!!!!

hehehehehe... I got them for $198 including shipping and a free airline adaptor from EarphoneSolutions.com after many emails to a few different companies trying to beat prices etc. The guy on ebay was going to give them to me for $189, but he didn't have the black ones for another 2 weeks so I got them off EarphoneSolutions for $198 including delivery and the airline adaptor worth $9.95 so they actually worked out cheaper if you think of it that way. They better be buckin worth it now!!!! haha.

They would want an mp3 player attached for that price.

If they're 60 bucks better sounding than the e3s then they're worth it. It's seriously like having a set of reference speakers in your head.
It's similar to spending top money on a computer monitor...even a top notch gaming rig is only as good as the monitor you view it's output with...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

exactly, and this is my gaming rig or big monitor because I'm not a gamer.. well except for pro evo;)

Looking forward to them I must say!! wooo:)

The high price of electronics, etc. is off topic here. Try and keep it OT.

*But: When you have experienced perfect quality sound from perfect headphones, you will find it very hard to go back to inexpensive in-ear headphones :)

Too right, I gave a loan of my E3C's to a mate and had to go back to my stock irivers, cant believe I put up with them so long, Got my old man some E2C's. You hear stuff you never heard in songs. people wouldnt bat an eyelid at people paying €120 on speakers.
I listen to my player for an average of 1 hour a day. My stereo maybe 1 hour a week. Stereo speakers that could produce that same sound quality would cost a fortune, if mine were nicked I would get another pair tomorrow without hesitation, €120 is nothing when you realise what yo are getting. They also block out the sound of spanish students nattering on the bus! You will not be blown away with them at first, it is only when you go back to use the ones you thought were decent quality in the first place.

Back On topic. I bought all my headphones and irivers from wind130 on ebay, a great seller.
When I got the E2C I got a warning from ebay.
    The following listing:

I have heard that shure may not cover warranty if products are sold below price, this is the only reason I can see that I got this email. That seller cormie mentioned I think says this too, they usually sell at the manufacturers price with free shipping.

I had a look for that wind guy and he's no longer on Ebay from what I could see, I wonder did this disolve his business?
