    Hi -

Anyone interested in creating some monthly or bi-monthly reviews of the latest happenings on boards.ie?

Initially, perhaps we could have two people doing an overall roundup, and later on think about focussing on the different sections.

    If you're interested, post here...

    Thanks,

    John.

Yep.. I'd be interested in getting involved with this.

I can provide access to a proper radio studio to record it in too if we want to get it sounding good too.

If needed, I would - I'm sure there are better qualified folks around though!

Myself and Shabadu would like to volunteer our services for this.

I also have access to good recording equipment both at home and at the radio stations I work with.

Shabadu says she'd take a lackey role.

Erm - This all a broadcasting thing, yes?

Darn - Here was me, going to offer to Bikinate anything needed, in the name of 'Shnu-Shnu', the ravenous Leprochaun Monkey!

Best of luck with it all!

Doing digests of individual forums, or groups of them could be interesting.

Yeah what I had in mind eventually was to have reviews of each or related categories, e.g.

    Arts / Rec
    Comp / Sci
    ...

    or something like that.

But maybe for now a general roundup would be good...

So let's see who we have so far...

    Monkey Fudge
    Buffybot

    An tSubh Dearg
    Shabadu

Would you prefer to have two 'teams'?

I might be able to help on the music side of it. Put me in for a provisional yes for the moment. I'd be able to give a definate answer once i know exactly whats involved etc.

I'll go with whatever suits folks!

Put me down also - Although I'm busy with a couple of projects, I can sure get a nice juicy rant review on Boards and it's Forums jotted down if needed.

I wouldnt mind doing a commentry on the For Sale section of boards. As I'm sure CuLT/Nukem wouldnt :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭Cloud

Well, we can either split it up between teams or just have everyone do a general review, and watch for survival of the fittest :)

One option for splitting the sections would be:

Entertainment (Arts / Music / Rec / Sports)

    Monkey Fudge
    Buffybot

Current Affairs (Biz / Hosted / Region / Soc (Probably the biggest one))

    An tSubh Dearg
    Shabadu

Technology (Comp / Games / Sci / Shop)

    RopeDrink
    GoneShootin

I like the idea of each team working on a different section. I think it would make it more manageable than a couple of people trying to do a general review of the whole site.

Would it be split up into a round up of each sport in the sports section or just "sport" overall?

I'd be interested as I have some experience in this area being that I used to be a DJ on an online radio station. What would these reviews entail? I'd like a tad more info please.

First of all I'll say that this is an excellent idea and I can't see it not becoming successful. Good luck.

What about having a few teams and giving each team the challenge to create say 3 general Boards.ie podcasts over 2 weeks and at the end all the users vote on which team they like the most and the winning team (or perhaps the top 2 teams) get to continue on. There could be time limits imposed on the contestants e.g. each podcast must be between 25 and 30 mins. (fair time limits in my opinion cos' it's not too short or too long and nobody could be so much longer than anyone else that their podcast would be so much better simply because of length).

It would be up to each team to be funny, informative, etc. and to win our hearts like in a Disney film.:)

Okay let's go with these topics then:

    RopeDrink
GoneShootin (and CuLT / Nukem if they want to help)

How about we limit it to 20 minutes for now and see how it goes after that... If you can't do 20 minutes, 10 or 15 will do just fine.

I've set up a web area for these, where I can collate the different podcasts:

    http://www.boards.ie/podcasts/

with an associated RSS feed. The files will be called, for example, "boards.ie_Review_-_Entertainment_-_20050916_-_Pop_Idol_And_Roy_Keane.mp3", and should have an associated .txt file describing the MP3 contents (this is used to generate the text on the web page).

So, how about we schedule an initial date for Friday week? 16 September?

Can the three teams produce something by then? We need to use freely available music to avoid any licensing issues, e.g. the stuff at www.mono211.com (Electronic).

    I just noticed.

    Buffybot is based in Kildare.

I'd much rather record while I'm in the same room as the other person. And I certainly don't to be blabbing on by myself. Is there anyone else in Dublin who wants to help out, and perhaps we can take Buffybot's contribution over the phone.

Oh.. and incidently I'll be giving a workshop in Podcasting on the evening of Tuesday the 20th of September. If anyone is interested than feel free to PM and I'll stick you down on the list of attendees.

    Buffybot is based in Kildare.

Well yes, but it's only 30 minutes away. Some of us have even been known to leave it and head towards the city :D

haha.. okay then.... I certainly wouldn't ever think about leaving Dublin though... it's scary out there.

I'll PM you and we'll work out some details.
