I'm wondering, is there such a thing as a usb cable that can connect two computers together in order that files can be dumped from one computer to another as easily as drag'n'drop? I used to have one that could do this with parallel back in the day but it done through dos, truncated the file names and was slow as hell..

So I was wonding in this modern era of ours is there such a thing as usb "laplink" style cable If so could you reccomend a good one to buy?

    Thank you!

What about a crossover network cable?

I'm sorry, I don't know what that is?

Basically what I'm looking for any sort of easy method whereby I can connect two computers and then have immediate ability (ie no rebooting or leaving Widows) to start mouse-dragging stuff quickly from CompA to CompB without losing filenames dir-structures or any of that sort of stuff.

If you have network ports on the laptops, you can buy a cross over network cable in any computer shop plug this cable into both laptops, set some settings and you're sorted.

a crossover cable would be the handiest! Just plug the cable into the network socket on both computers! It looks like a telephone socket where you plug the modem into but its bigger! It's an extremely fast way to do it and you will then have immediate ability (ie no rebooting or leaving Widows) to start mouse-dragging stuff quickly from CompA to CompB without losing filenames dir-structures or any of that sort of stuff.

All you will have to do is setup ip address for both comps! I can make you a crossover cable if you want and tell you how to get the ip addresses setup on each comp! Let me know if you want me to do that for you! I do this a good bit for boards.ie users here is the link to the stickey I have in the FS computer hardware fourm http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=219447

AFAIK there is a special USB cable supplied with PC Anywhere.
Check the site. You may be able to buy the cable on its own.

Ah theres no point in them! a crossover cable is a lot better and easier to use! No issues with drivers etc. for different operating systems. e.g. win 95 and win xp!

Maplin do them... e30-e50 depending if you want USB1 or 2.

I'd say go with the crossover cable.

I have been doing it with one for years now with one and it works perfect. I must move on to a wireless router though. :)
