    *thinks*

Excluding the obvious gf. I live with 2 of my closest friends. There are another, eh, 5 that I'd consider close friends who I see at least once a week.

There's another 6 that I only keep in touch with by phone and online. But I don't get to see them often because we live in different cities/countries nowadays, and apart from occasional visits to abuse each other's crash space.

    *shrugs*

I've tended to keep in touch with people I got on really well with and I've met an awful lot of people through college, work and my hobbies. So there's actually more than I thought now that I added them up there.

I've never done the best friend thing tbh.

OK Slap that onto the poll then cos i only set that up now.

If anyone comes on and writes "Bords.ie is my Friend" of similar i WILL find and slap you!

Anyway i have 1 Best Mate "Colly" (How skangerish i know....) and than my group of Close friends is about 5.

Golly. What purpose does this thread serve? Does anyone actually give a crap? Can I suggest we tie the OP up with red hot razor wire, staple his eyes shut, pop his tongue in a meat grinder and drop a fridge on his head.

Nothing about different groups either. Used to have lots of separate groups who didnt know each other, or only some knew others from other groups. Like school mates, mates since a kid in your area, college mates, work mates, work mates from past companies, hobby mates, football crowd etc etc

I'd have been interested to have broken this down into a male/female poll. From personal observation I think on average women seem to have more 'friends' at any given point it time but they rarely seem to be 'real' friendships. ie I couldn't see 'female friend X' being able to depend on 'female friend Y' if push came to shove.

I've also found that men are better at cutting ties with people who are no longer 'relevant' to their lives eg schoolfriends whereas women seem to be more interested in keeping contact and friendships-alive with people they haven't seen for years.

Again this is all from personal experience so feel free to disagree.

Tbh, I liked validating my existence by counting out people who are lucky enough for me to consider them friends.

So yes it has a purpose and has fulfilled it. :)

In my youth I had only a few close friends, in recent years have leaned towards more casual, a lot more open with people but try not to get emotionally attached. Well 2 very close friends of mine have died over the years, so maybe that has had some baring.

I have one "best" friend. She's in my class in school.
If i'm at her house I'm friends with her freinds.
On my road i mainly hang around with three girls then we go around with other groups.
In school theres me and my best mate then me and my bus friends then a group of girls I used to be really close to but would still consider them mates then a different group of girls that i good mates with but wouldnt rely on them for much but some of them are brilliant mates

    I don't need friends.

I have got Sky Sport, plenty of women and I will soon be rich so I can buy all the toys I want! :D

Two of my best friends are in my year and I'd have friends in my year I'd be friendly with in school but I wouldn't talk to much outside of school. I have a group of friends outside school who I see at weekends and I talk to a lot online and I would count these as some of my best friends too. Then I have people who I'd see now and again and text once in a while but I wouldn't be that close with. It's also kinda cap that some of my best friends live in inconveinient location (ie Not Dublin) so it can be hard to see them.

Yeah I'm the same. It's more like one group of four, two groups of three, and one other friend who kind of mingles with each group. There's a lot of friends there so i can't complain, but I definitely envy people who have one friend above everyone else who they consider their best friend. I've never really had that. Although as I said I can't complain, i'm very lucky to have such a great circle of friends.
