Networking Q more than Wireless Q

    Hey,

I got delivery of my Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G on Friday, and played around with it over the weekend. I'm connecting a Desktop PC (with XP Home) via the ethernet port, and a Laptop (with XP Pro) over WiFi. I set up WPA on the Router, via the setup web dialog (192.168.1.1), and the Laptop successfully connected to the Wireless network. I've set up shared drives on the Desktop, and the Laptop.

The problem is that I cannot see those shares. On the Desktop, when I go into Network Neighbourhood, and Windows Network, I see the Desktop and the Laptop, but I can't expand out the Laptop to see the Shares, it says I don't have the relevant permissions. When I do the same on the Laptop however, I don't even see the Desktop.

I'm a bit of a noob with regards to Networking, I read a previous post that said turning on File Sharing in XP, and setting them both up in the same Workgroup should be sufficient, I've done this.

    Any help?

    Thanks

Without creating a new thread. I have just one query about the setting up of a wireless network. I think I have a good idea for the rest.

How does one know what address, i.e. 192.168.1.1, to enter into the Web browser in order to open up the routers configuration settings? Is this just a common default or is it contained in manual somewhere associated with the router of course?

Yea it's in the User's manual for the Linksys Router, but I've also come across it configuring a ZyXel Broadband Modem (in the manual as well)... I'm not sure why this address would be used, but it seems to be the standard.

For the main topic, I did another bit on this last night, and after turning off ZoneAlarm they could both see each other's Shares. So now I have to figure out a way of setting up the firewall.....
