Well i think i may have just fallin into the "Social Smoker" clan. I stopped many months ago and since then have not had much of a night life due to not knowing many folks.
Over the last few weeks i made a few connections and have slipped back into my old night life routine , but i have started this social smoking bs . As soon as iv had a few beers my will power flys out the window and i start puffing away.
A few of my m8's that have never been full time smoker also admit to being social smokers, it seems loads of folks fall into this trap. Not sure if its got to do with looking cool, or just that drink and a smoke just seem to go hand in hand. Very odd really, any1 else out there enjoy a few cigarettes while under the influence . Why do u think you do it ??

I was off the cigs for about a year and a half, when I started this social smoking thing, in a mistaken idea that I could just have 1 or 2 outside with the lads. It worked like that for quite a while, and I would go weeks without a cigarette, but gradually, I noticed I started smoking more when I was out, and not just for social reasons. Yes, the nicotine had regained controlled and ****ed me over again. Then I started having a few during weekdays, now I'm back to my old 20 a day habit (although I'm quitting again this week).

I think the reason social smoking happens is because I was in situations where I would literally be the only one sitting in a pub, while all the mates were outside puffing away and chatting up smokey girls. But there's no way anyone can keep cigs under control, eventually you end up full time again.

It's supposed to be better to smoke 7 every friday every week, than one a day every week.
I've never smoked a regular cigarette, but I do love a few puffs on a cigar when I've been drinking.

Crumbs , that aint boosting me confidence. I went out last nite and probably had 7-8 cigs. I woke up this morning with 2 boxes (not sure how) and havent touched them yet, although i have been so tempted . I REALLY dont want to start full time again, gonna do my best to keep it under controll.

Im only off the ciggys 2 months now, i was on 20 a day, but untill this week i had absolutely no problems...the odd craving, but nothing i couldn't handle. I've been out loads since i gave up, but never smoked, but the last 2 nights i was out it started with someone passing me a "ciggarette" for a couple of drags...so i did, and then last night i had half a smoke that i grabbed out of some girls hand.

It's a slippery slope! Thanks for this thread...i can see what's happening here! It's time to re-concentrate my efforts!!!

i think i do as well but ive only smoked twice over the summer and its usually when im paraletic with drink as i actually cant remember smoking them but am told i do.

Social smoking has died out a lot since the smoking ban. There is far less pressure to smoke now that you have to leave the building (smoking gardens change this a bit though tbh).

Tbh, I smoke far less at the pub these days than I do at home. I used to chain smoke once I'd gotten a nice bit of alcohol into me. That doesn't happen as often these days.

I smoke when I'm out or when I'm drinking, if one of my mates is smoking or something. I wouldn't buy a pack on my own, but I like to bum one or two off others, lol. It's payment for my company when they go outside I used to do the same when I wasn't drinking, and I ended up craving it alot, but so far I've not had any trouble. Ahh well. I'll still probably never buy my own pack, so if I get hooked, then I'll quit again because I'll have no choice, lol.

Ive been a social smoker for almost 2 years now. I can go the entire week in work without having one (unless im having an extremely stressful day) but when i go for a drink either midweek or at the weekend the urge to smoke comes back. I started smoking just when i drank in an effort to give them up completely....but here i am 2 years later and giving up is not in sight as of yet. I do it coz i cant not!
But the way i see it is its better to smoke just when u drink rather than smoking 20-30 a day.

Hahahahaha , in my drunken state perhaps i took a jog into Galway , love a good beat down .
