    Hi,

I'm in the market for a Portable/Personal Video Player. I've been mainly concentrating on the Archos AV420, but if someone can convince me otherwise I can consider another...

Reading here and reviews (CNET and Tom's Hardware), it seems like everyone who's bought one's not regretted it. One problem I can see is that I might be late to the party and something newer and more wonderful is just around the corner - though I feel like this for most gadget/tech purchases. I've looked at the AV700 too, which is just coming out, but it's more expensive (and looks huge too).

The cheapest I can find it is €379.95 from eXpansys, but it's out of stock until September 15th (and they also say something about 2 weeks shipping? I've not bought from them before...)

The next best price I can find is €399 before shipping from pixmania (€412 in total, "Express Delivery 24-48 hours" - not bought from them before either). Can anyone recommend another place to try? I've looked at the sticky about gadget shops above, but they either don't stock them or are more expensive. Also, I don't want to use eBay for various reasons :)

Any Archos users out there willing to throw in their 2c on their experiences using the product?

this may be a bit out of your price range but it's pretty damn cool http://archos.com/products/prw_500680.html archos av 500 its about e500

or the creative zen vison http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=210&subcategory=211&product=12985 which is $400.

    Thanks for the reply Nephew.

Yeah, the €500 is out of my price range. Also, according to the website, the Zen is only taking pre-orders for the US and isn't available elsewhere.

I ended up getting the AV420 anyway.

Robert, the expanys deal seems like a good one.You wouldn't find a price like that on a PVP like the archos.I use one and its the business.Would highly recommend it.I'm normally like you, thinking something better will come out,but I actually did a spur-of-the-moment jobbie on it and paid full whack in Dixon's with 3 year cover. The good thing about the 3 year cover is that they will replace the player within 3 yrs with whatever is out at the time.So in two and a half years time it falls and cant be repaired, you get a replacement of whatever is availible. And lets face it,3 years is a long time in gadget terms.

I would say go with the expansys one and defo go for the av420 if ya don't have much cash
