I will be in the Southcourt on Tuesday. The standard of play is going to be absolutely brutal. Hope I can get through the minefield. If I don't come 1st on the Limerick leaderboard I'll be pissed.

Weekly satellite tournaments will be held, leading into regional super satellites, the top players of which moving on to the All Ireland Poker Finals, to compete for the €500,000 prize pool. Qualifying online poker tournaments are also being held online at Boylepoker.com, Irish bookmaker Boylesports' new online poker room.

I'm selling my ticket for the €350 super-sat on the 21st/22nd October in Galway. I'll pay the registration for whoever buys the ticket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭strewelpeter

So, whats on offer at the red cow tonight, a seat at a 350 satelite?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,070 ✭✭✭Ollieboy

Is there cash prize tonight or is it only tickets for the regional finals?

I would expect that the final table get tickets plus cash and that 10k is prize money not including tickets cost.

    Any ideas?

Not sure, doesn't seem to be alot of info on the site.

I'm going to go along anyway, you should too ollie your luck seems in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,070 ✭✭✭Ollieboy

I think your right ntlbell, but I've a funny feeling thats only online. Need to play more live games before next week, so hopefully will get there. Keep an eye out for me and say hello.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭azzeretti

Yeah I would imagine thats how it is. All the other events run by Pokerevents have taken the buy in (excluding registration) for the next round out of the prize fund and then given cash out too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭strewelpeter

    Thanks,

The info on the site is a bit thin OK. I was supposed to be going to a pub game tonight but this looks more attractive. I'll probably head over if I can get away from work.

Yeah, this is my first live tourny too, not going to take it too serious, just get some expirience if you see someone with steam coming out of their ears playing as loose as a jecinta on the back of a nightlink, that'll be me.

Just a short report on the game, 95 runners and a prize pool of 8300, which was made up of tickets valued at 350 for the regional and 1000 for the finals. So players from 7 - 3 got regional tickets and the final 2, got final tickets, I thought this was a bit unfair, as it made the cash prize's very small.

10th got 125, which was your money back
9th got 150 or 175 which was a small return
    8th got 250
Than 7th got a ticket, valued at 350 plus 125 and so on.

I felt the ticket value was unfair, as I'm sure the promoters are getting these at a cheaper rate, so their even making more money on the night. The reg of 15 and 10 for the top up seem high, but the quality of chips and tables and even dealers was very good and each table had its own dealer. So I don’t mind paying for a well run event.

I felt the standard was good, I saw no flush or straight chasers all night. Most people seem to know the game well, but there was the odd funny bet and bluffing going on.

The only problems been, was the noise, the guy with the mike seems to love his voice and he was hoarse before the night even begun. Even the noise from the people watching was very off putting and you always felt people were trying to look at your cards over you shoulder. The breaking up of the tables was also a bit poor and you always had to call for the TD, but in general it was well run event. When we got to the final table, the highest card got the dealer button. But this suit me.

This was my first real live game, besides the very odd game in a pub and I need the practice before the British Speed Open next week, so I start of well, had Ace King and flop came with 2 aces, this was my best hand all night. I won the last hand before the break, with a pair of 6's been my holding cards. All 3 of us went in and I knew they weren't holding much, so felt it was worth a call. I was correct, player 1 had a pair of 2’s and the other player had K 9, so my pair of 6’s held up. This brought my chip count up to 17k after top up. I than won a few blinds and on the 30 player mark I had a nice chip count of 50k. After this the cards went dry again and I manage to come in 8th and earn 250. I was happy with my performance and felt I learnt a lot about body language and even my own body language.

So in general, I'll go again, as I would love to win a ticket for the final.

Went out 9th in this after nursing a shortstack to the final table.
It was well run for the most part except for one of the dealers who mis-dealt hands on a number of occaisions. This was amusing however as one player couldn't grasp the fact that he wouldn't have got his KK if the correct number of hands were dealt :)

A more serious concern was the fact that despite it being "one rebuy OR top up" the organisers did not keep track and at least one person was able to rebuy AND top up. In fairness to the player in question, when he realised this wasn't supposed to happen he gave the top up back.
Not really good enough as far as I'm concerned though.

Ollie - I'm pretty certain you could take the cash instead of the ticket if you wanted to. Because it is 100% of the prizepool that's why the reg fees are higher [to pay for the tables, venue, dealers etc] So Pokerevents don't make anything off of that entry ticket it is what it is.

BTW Jaden I may well take that ticket off of you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭strewelpeter

If I'm not mistaken you will still have to pay registration on top of the seat won, so all the ticket money works through to the final. Also I was told by one of the organisers that the 350 seats for Citywest in October are transferrable... I didn't ask about taking cash instead, as I'm only 50 50 to be available that weekend.

I must say this night was fantastic, I thought the event was run very well, if I have the slightest complaint it's the tables are a bit rocky!

I think I ended up 12th and with a little bit more paitence might have reached the final table (no bad beat stories, just my own stupidity)

All in all this event is run very well and they run some side 50e/100e STT's as people get knocked out and this is where you probably have your best chance at going home with a few quid in your pocket.

The majority of people playing were fairly solid, Only a few of the cool hand luke shade wearing brigade, there was one guy wearing shades which might have been a bit too shiny as from where I was I could see his cards in them! I think someone pointed it out to him eventually.

So for my first Live tournament I was more than impressed with the setup but I've nothing to compare it to but I'll definitley go along again.

I played this also, thought in general things went well. A couple of minor criticisms are that 5 minutes of the first level, which is only twenty minutes long were gone before the first hand was dealt, because the dealers had to give out chips etc. Later the clock was left to run when they took in the chips. I think there is little enough play room in this tournie without organisers running down the clock. Also i think the dealers need a bit more experience. One guy in particular showed a players mucked hand to the table a couple of times. They tended to get confused when there was a side pot also. All in all though I enjoyed the night and will play again in the future.

Could someone please clarify what the payout structure was? From Ollieboy's post it looks like the prizefund was €8300 of which only €4300 was paid out. Unless the tickets include registration, which would add €375.

Is the rest of the prizepool added on to a later event (the €1000 freezeout for example) or is it lining somebody's pockets? Or is there a mistake in the post?

86 runners and no rebuys would create that prizepool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭strewelpeter

I think they gave out 5 * 350 satellite seats and 2 * 1000 final seats. Thats €3750 The rest of the entry fees rebuys and top ups, about €5K, were paid out in cash to the last ten. I don't know what the percentages or amounts were. Ubnfortunately I wasn't still there for the payout :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,070 ✭✭✭Ollieboy

It was a combination of cash plus tickets, not sure what the exact payout was, but it total 8300.

So they gave away cash of €4550 and tickets to the value of €3750.

    I know 10th got €125, 9th €175, 8th 250, 7th ticket worth €350 plus cash of €125 etc. Something like this.

I'll keep it aside for you. Lemme know one way or the other, so I can make alternative arrangements. I'm gutted I can't play, but the date is within a week of my wife's due date, so there is no chance at all. Pity really, freezeouts suit my style of play.

Incidently, you cannot take cash instead of a ticket, otherwise, everyone would.
