Flopped the nuts, now what?

This actually happened to me last night in a cash game on PPP.

I get Q8o, and call the BB. The SB calls and the BB checks. Everybody else folds (it's a 6-hander, so no big surprise). Flop comes 888 and I've got the nuts. However, there's only 3BBs in the middle, so my question is how would you bet.

I was first to act so I checked the flop then did a min bet on the turn, which was a 6, hoping that somebody might have paired it to give them the full house. Everybody folded, and I basically got the blinds for my quads.

Was there a better way to do this? Check on the turn, hoping that the river would be a picture card, and my opponents would have a better chance of pairing? Or would a small bet on the flop looked like I was chancing my arm and been seen more readily? Maybe a larger bet would have brought in those who were still chasing a pair, thinking I was trying to steal blinds. The more I think about it, the less I know, but looking back, I guess the flop-check then turn-bet looked somewhat like I was slow playing a killer hand.

Maybe there's no right way to play this. It depends on your position, your image at the table, the other players, their hands, etc. I just feel like I didn't make the most of a rare hand.

same thing happened me in the fitz 270 a few months back. Had A9 and 999 came out. Played it exactly the same as you and only got the blinds. The only way you will get paid is if someone is holding a pocket pair or makes a full house. Otherwise I dont think it really matters how you play. Fo shizzle

Bet it when the flop hits, or bet it on the river - make it look like your tryin to steal. Not a small bet but an over bet

With no bets preflop and only the SB and BB in it... your just not going to get any action. Check down to the river and hope one of them pairs. Over bet like El Rifle said.
