Just a heads up for those with digital access to BBC4, they are showing an old Arena documentary about the life and times of the Ford Cortina.
    ARTS: Arena
    Channel: BBC 4 (Digital Terrestrial)
    Date: Monday 5th September 2005
Time: 21:35 to 22:20 (starting in 3 days)
    Duration: 45 minutes.
Private Life of the Ford Cortina.
This quirky Arena, made in 1982, looks back to a time when the humble Ford Cortina was the most popular, and the most stolen, car in Britain.
    (Stereo)

Should be good as its part of the Best of Arena season.

    Mike.

That's a lovely looking car, fair play for driving it daily. Have you done many mods to it to have it "usable"?

This is my daily driver - note the obligatory 70s cushion.

PS: Would you not be tempted to put original wheels on it?

You must have the only examples of both the Taunus and 3.0 cortina in the country. Also the it ws the Alexis Sayle programme.

Thanks Bill. That photo was 2 years ago - she's picked up some dings and scrapes since. She generally looks like someone just wiped their arse with her. Black is the worst colour for a car in Ireland.

    But she cleans up well.

@Corktina - the DS on the quays is either me or my friend Antonio. His car is practically identical - my Mrs. mistook his for mine one day, freaked her out to see someone else driving it. She rang me to tell me it was stolen :)

Is the Taunus German? The Mk3 was always my favourite shape cortina. The Mk2 is very cool - so east london gangster - but mk3 had the curves. The Mk5 my least favourite.

i think that there may be another Taunus coupé but i have not seen it.....may only be a rumour....(she was first reg'd in France, but Ford of Germany ,although Taunuses (taunii?) were mostly built in Belgium i think...))

def the only 3.0S..i think there is maybe 1 more in the UK (ex-South AFrica...)

That's a lovely example of a continental Taunus Coupe GXL, absolutely unique to find in Ireland. Being Dutch I would ofcourse know these cars as you would all know your Cortina's: your dad, uncle, neighbour had one... Can still remember sitting in my uncles XL saloon on the front seat, too small to be able to see out over that massive, and I mean massive slab of a plastic dashboard!!!

Bear in mind though, they are frightfully difficult to find in pristine condition nowadays here on the continent! Loads of garbage ofcourse, but genuinely good cars are very hard to find...

Look after it well, you have a great collection. Had a Mint Lhd Cortina MK1 for a while, but it's sold now...

    Nice cars indeed !

There used to be a Taunus Coupe like that up my way. I used to see it every day, havent done so for about 6/7 months now !

That 3.0S Cortina look to sit very high. Do you know if it had the "springs for greater ground clearance " that could be fitted to a lot of South African cars !

i always claim it has to sit high to clear the termites nests and elephant dung...I have no intention of lowering it as it is perfect for Cork roads..... :D
