laptop too hot

My laptop is heating up something awful, literally can't put it on my lap after 20mins of being on. If i were to replace the 128mb geforce6600 gpu would it cool down at all? the heat seems to be eminating from there.

What spec is the laptop?
Is it a P4 by any chance
If it is a P4 than its going to be HOT.
Does the heat cause any other problems, other than not being able to leave it on your lap?
I.E. crashes,etc,etc.

I had that problem and I bought one of those laptop cooling pads with fans in it and that sorted it. When my laptop died and I opened it up I found the fan was nearly completely blocked with fluff :rolleyes:
