Well I will prioritise hatetred towards the nerds. We will be a group/gang of socially on the ball individuals who's minds have no been corrupted by science fiction. I will promote fun and kewlness but won't over emphasise individuality - I'm not looking for overly artistic types. We will be friendly and sociable to those who warrent freindship, those who I feel deserve it. I aim to encompass all interests at the same time, sports, current affairs and music will rate near the top. While we intend to have those who are fit and able for outings, I also want to speak with like minded and realtivley intelligent people.

As the nerds reign supreme power at this moment in time, I would prefer not to divulge my name. If you have any serious interest in joining this new and exciting society please contact me though PM.

    CSC guide wrote:
If you want to set up a new society in College, which will be recognised by the Central Societies Committee (CSC) and the College Board, there are certain steps that need to be followed.

    1. Before you start, you should examine the list of existing societies to see if there is one that is already recognised, and which could accommodate your interest…

    2. Once you have established that your proposed society is unique, you should try and gather together a group of similarly minded students and staff to help out…

    3. Once you have got a group together, you should start to draw up a constitution for your proposed society… It contains certain sections which deal specifically with a society's relationship to the CSC - duties of the society officers re submission of annual accounts, secretary's reports, etc., which must be included in your society constitution.

    4. Next you have to collect the signatures and I.D. numbers of 50 students and staff members who would like to see the society being recognised in College…

    5. Now you need to submit both your constitution and your list of signatures to the Secretary of the CSC. You will be given a time to come in and put your case to the CSC Executive… will be invited to explain the aims of your society and how you intend to satisfy those aims to the meeting…

The criteria under which the society will be examined are as follows:
    i. It must have 50 or more signatures in support of the application…
ii. A constitution and statement of aims must be produced and be deemed satisfactory. It must be democratic and have proper financial controls.
iii. The principal aims of the society must not already be covered in the aims of any recognised society or capitated body or group thereof.
iv. It must satisfy the Executive that the society is likely to make a long term contribution to student life in College and to continue on an on-going basis…
You may encounter a number of obstacles.

What are you all ****ting on about. This society would of course be underground, no?

To Kewl for Rewls and all that!

I figured you nerds might give me some trouble with CSC malarkey and whatnot. The society is building up its members as we speak. I suggest you join while you still can, or dissolve your socities (sci-fi and gamers in particular).

I am taking all matters regarding the formation of the society very seriously and would appreciate if certain individuals refrained from spoiling the thread. All are welcome to aid in the creation of this new and exciting society.

Nerds don't really rule Trinity's societies. It only looks that way on Internet boards. Being, you know, the Internet and all.

Gamers are dorks btw, not nerds.

Untrue, Photography Society are dorks. Gamers are nerds. Trinity FM types are hacks. It's a complicated hierarchy.

Wrong, nerds require general knowledge, dorks have specific knowledge, and geeks are dorks with specific knowledge of computing and the like.

Listen to yourselves. some sort of reform is urgently needed in TCD. It could take years to firmly stamp the Kewl society into TCD. I'll be in contact with the next best society ( the surf one) asap to see what sort of salvage package we can establish to save any individuals not tainted by the obviously powerful sci-fi soc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

scifi controls all of TCD, we are just a front for a huge secret society that was set up by mary harney in 1983

    Nerd, geek or dork?

    Take the test!

    http://www.okcupid.com/tests/take?testid=9935030990046738815

For the record i'm a nerd....with touches of geek.

    Modern, Cool Nerd
    73 % Nerd, 56% Geek, 13% Dork
    For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

    Joe Normal
    17 % Nerd, 21% Geek, 8% Dork
    For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored less than half in all three, earning you the title of: Joe Normal.

This is not to say that you don't have some Nerd, Geek or Dork inside of you--we all do, and you can see the percentages you have right above. This is just to say that none of those qualities stand out so much as to define you. Sure, you enjoy an episode of Star Trek now and again, and yeah, you kinda enjoyed a few classes back in the day. And, once in a while, you stumble while walking down the street even though there was nothing there to cause you to trip. But, for the most part, you look and act fairly typically, and aren't much of an outcast.

I'd say there's a fair chance someone asked you to take this test. In any event, fairly normal.

    Congratulations!

If you enjoyed this test, I would love the feedback!

Cool. That totally describes me. I would have to add a few more onto the nerd percentage. lol.

    EDIT:

Cant believe noone had mentioned this but have you realised that the person who started this thread is writing in pink. Pink for god sake!

    Oh my god
    Pure Nerd
    78 % Nerd, 26% Geek, 17% Dork
    For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

    Congratulations!
How am I so much of a nerd? Just because I pick up on people's spelling mistakes.... Hmmph

I hate people who try to set up societies :D.

And loserface, if you actually want to set up this society collect 50 signatures and drop into the CSC office to see Lucy. She's the really friendly blonde CSC saviour.
