Given that the average hotel room in Manhatten is supposed to be $280 per night, anybody have any recommendations for hotels/guest houses that aren't to far from it all? I'm going in October.

I was in New York last may and I stayed Hotel Pennsylvania its a huge hotel (1700 rooms) right in the hart of Manhattan, right next door to Macy's and across the street from Madison Square Garden and one block from the Empire State building what more can you ask for....well there is a subway station right at the door....and I got my room for $99 a night and you get the 4th night free. Here is a link to the hotel but to get these prices you have to book online.

Not the Ritz, but clean, safe and cheap. Good diner across the road.
