Energy Efficient Light Blubs

    Just a few questions:

    1. Where do I buy them? My local Tescos didn't seem to have them.

    2. How much are they? Are they worth the cost?

    3. Are they just fluorescent tubes wrapped around to look like normal lightblubs. If so do they have to be disposed differently to be environmentally friendly?

    Thanks Guys

Most energy efficient bulbs are CFL = Compact fluorescent Light, however there are other bulbs that also use less energy such as GU10/MR16 LED bulbs and cold cathode bulbs.
They have a lifespan about 5 times that of a normal incandescent bulb and use a fraction of the energy.
I saw something that said that the payback for CFLs was far faster than you realise.
They do need to be disposed of in the special bulb section of the tip.
Try a small electrical store that sells appliances and such.

they are definitely worth getting - i am gradually changing all the bulbs in my house over to the energy saving ones - tescos in stillorgan has then in the homewares shop - so I'd say if you try a bigger tescos you'd find them. the diy shops all do them & the electrical shops - power city etc all stock them ;)

220-220V 6400K '25Watt' full Spectrum bulb's give you the equivalent light of a 100 Watt and last for around 10,000 hours!.

Mine came supplied with my Tensor Natural daylight full spectrum table lamps, that I purchased from ; www.qvcuk.com/

I was so impressed with the brightness and lack of heat that I now have 3, One table lamp and two floor standing. Product code online is 822219 for the table lamp. They are real quality brass, produced and sold worldwide by Tensor, an American company.

Very reasonably priced as well. ;)

So is it just my energy saving light bulbs that only last a year to 18 months( if i'm lucky)?
Had an electrician in to test the supply and he said it was fine.

Have you got the bulbs on a dimmer circuit? are you swithing them on and off often?
That kind of thing can really reduce the bulbs lifetime.

No Dimmer switch. Not really on and off all that much.
One was in a living room the other a bedroom. One started flickering after about 12 months the other just blew after 18 or so. Another one lasted about 18 again but i can't remember where it was. Kitchen i think.
