    Hi

Does anyone else use Ecover cleaning products and is there anywhere in Dublin, I can get refills of wash up liquid without having to go down to the Eco shop in Wicklow?

i don't live in dublin itself, i'm on the border, and i don't actually buy it (yet), but from what i know, tesco stock it, and i'm sure health shops have it too. i know the one on Georges Street definately has the brand anyway. try your local supermarket and health shop, you'd be surprised.

The Hopsack in the Swan Centre in Rathmines does evover refills. You have to have an original ecover bottle for the product you want though.

    Iguana

That's great thanks. Kestrel I buy it the whole time and am delighted they even stock it, but I need refills now.

There's a fantastic shop in Ennis that does refills but wasn't able to find similar here in Dublin.

Tesco sell the Bio powder for 6.99, but it's only in the bigger stores. They also carry fabric softner and dishwasher/washing up bits.
The Nourish chain carry biospray cleaner, which is great stuff, and floor cleaner...all that jazz. It's more expensive than the supermarkets, but you can get refills on big bottles.
Down to Earth on Georges st has it as well, but again, rather $$$ - last time I checked, there was 3 euro diff on the washing powder between there and tesco.

Have you tried the Dublin Food coop?

I'm not based in Dublin, but I run a sort of co-op in Wicklow Town. It's basically a bunch of families that pool orders for a wholefoods wholesaler.

We don't keep stock and don't have a shopfront, but have access to the entire range of products from our supplier, including a lot of Ecover stuff. We sell at a slight markup from wholesale (currently 10% but under review) so we are almost always cheaper than the shops, but the downside for you would be that we don't deliver! That said, we just got a member in Dublin southside so we could link up a few Dublin people to collect their orders together.

The way it works is that members pre-order and some things have to be bought in large lots - ie 5 bags of flour, 10 bottles of (new, not refill) Ecover washing up liquid etc. Other things can be bought singly - e.g. couscous, rice, oatmeal, vitamins, deodorant etc. Some members pool together so they don't have to get a full lot of something on their own, but we don't split boxes - it's too much work!

We haven't done Ecover refills yet but if you and a few others were interested we could invest in one of the big refills (I think they're something like 30 litres).

Hmm sounds interesting, I'll look into it. Thanks Frost

I'm the south dublin member Frost referred to, just collected an order this morning - all good stuff, including ecover shower/hair gel. What I really like is that it's top notch stuff at a discount to prices I've seen in supermarkets.

Have a look at the meitheal food catalog at http://www.meitheal.net/main/ and savour the goodies. I did as frost suggested, and got my family to send me their orders, then I put in one order for the lot.

You can pay online through paypal with a credit card, or lob a cheque in the post, ez-pz, job done.

If anyone wants to order things - it's a snip using the online store - I can collect the order from Wicklow so you only have to drop into me to collect it in Loughlinstown.

I have to say I love ecover products, am not entirely sure why, but would love to try the shampoo etc, I didn't know they did those too. I'll have a look at the site.

If you want home deliveries of Ecover, anywhere in Ireland, check out Ecobaby's site: http://www.ecobaby.net/catalog where they do Ecover, Bio-D and other similar stuff. They've a Callsave number too. Deliveries by bike trailer too, cool!

Ecologic in Dundrum - (new-ish shop in Windy Arbour, just across from the hospital) do Ecover refills too.

I've been switching to eco products as my conventional stuff runs out and saw E-cloths recently - has anyone used them? Unfortunately I didn't have time to stop and ask questions but from what I read on the leaflet you use them without needing to use any cleaning products. But they don't seem to be impregnated with anything. I'd agree with the thought that most people probably use far too many cleaning products but I would have thought that a certain amount was necessary from a hygiene point of view. Just using a cloth and water might get rid of the dirt but not necessarily germs/bacteria etc. I thought. Would be interested to know if anyone is using these as an alternative to even using Ecover or similar.

Ecover is available in the Evergreen health food shop in the galway shopping centre, and in Westside shop ctre too. They do some refills.
I'm just happy to be using biodegradable products as we have a septic tank and a pureflow system.

There are a few threads on the vegetarian board about ethical clothing - I think there are a few links there.

Misty Moon. I bought E-Cloths at Ecoligic a couple of weeks ago. I am very impressed. My bathroom washbasins and taps just sparkle after using them, with no detergent. I got a pack of 2, 1 of which is coarser than the other. I use the coarser one for cleaning and then just wipe over with the finer one. I don't think that Mr. Proper kills many germs anyway so I'm happy enough to use them for bathroom sinks. I've also done a few windows, mirrors, wooden surfaces and they've worked great on those too.

I also bought Soapods for clothes washing. I'm not quite sure about those yet.

I've been using soap pods for over a year now and can't see myself ever going back to using conventional washing powder. Even when my housemate has done her washing and it's hanging up I find the smell overpowering and wonder how I didn't think so for years using Bold/Ariel etc. Now I just think my clothes smell clean and occasionally I add a few drops of lavender oil if I want something more.

The one thing I have found that doesn't come out as well as with conventional powder is white sports socks. I find they seem a little bit gray now. However I've never noticed the same with any other white clothes and as I only have two pairs of these it doesn't really bother me. Dried blood is the only other thing I've ever had an issue with but it's not something I need to deal with very often and a bit of soda in with the wash more than takes care of it.

I was unconvinced at the beginning and spent ages sniffing clothes after washing and even making sure I noticed where they were dirty and checking where those stains were to make sure that they were clean now. I never found anything though so had to admit finally that soap pods do work.

I also have to admit that I took to watching the washing machine to make sure there really was soapy stuff coming out! I am sad, I know. What finally convinced me I think was the day I forgot to put the bag in the wash and washed my clothes just with water. They definitely were not clean afterwards so just washing in water doesn't work.

I might call in to Ecologic again sometime to chat with the guy who owns it about e-cloths. Can't remember his name but he always seems to be very knowledgable.

Does anybody know of any ecover stockists, (if possible with refill option) in Cavan/Monaghan/Louth/Meath area?

That's quite a big area who hopefully there's one in there somewhere.

    Thanks in advance
