Asking for a friend in the Royal County! Anybody do this (or similar) route on a daily commuting basis? Best way to arrive at work at 8 or 9am and home at half 4 or 5? Cheers everyone. :)

I would say your best bet would be to use back roads from kells to ashbourne and from there head into swords,at that time try to avoid the city.

Well, the M1 is out because you have to hit Ardee and the toll bridge after that. It'll likely be through Ashbourne. I would have thought Kells-Navan-Ashbourne-Swords, but I don't know which roads to take from Ashbourne to Swords-I'm guessing the N2/M50 junction is a mess in the mornings? Any ideas of back roads from Ashbourne to Swords?

Go through Ashbourne (dublin side) and where the right turn for Ratoath/Fairyhouse is there is a left turn for Swords on the other side of the road. It'll bring you into Swords on the JCs road.

You could also go Kells, Navan, Duleek, M1, Swords. This route is toll free and would be the one I'd go for.

turn left at the Ashbourne house hotel (dublin side of ashbourne village), head straight down that road for about 15-20mins, that takes you straight in to swords.

that road is closed for works on the new bypass, it will be closed for a few more months.

I think you would have to pay the toll coming off the M1 at Duleek (open to correction)

    .

The Ashbourne end of that road is closed or at least it was 2 weeks ago. There is a left turn just at the northern ouskirts of Ashbourne that will bypass the road works and bring you out at the church near drapers stables.

I don't usually travel that road but I think ashbourne could be a bit of a bottleneck in rush hour. You could take the back road a couple of miles north of Ashbourne and go cross country via Garristown and Rolestown. I have driven that road and it's not too bad.

You know you could be right, other option is Duleek to Julanstown to Gormanstown, M1, Swords.

    Kells - Navan - Kentstown - Ashbourne - Swords

    Kells - Navan - Dunshaughlin - Ashbourne - Swords
