You're only just finished your education, and within hours are asking for advice about the dole??

What line of work are you interested in doing?

Finding a job can take a while, but you've just got to stick at it and be patient. Email any and every company you want to work for. Email every job agency you can find on the net, and go to job websites like www.recruitireland.ie. You'll be able to find a job in no time.

Also, places like McDonalds are always hiring afaik, and pay a lot more than the dole. Go around town and drop CVs into every shop, HMV, champion sports, cloths shops....where ever. If you really really wanted a job, you would have no problem getting one what so ever....especcially with all the student summer jobs freeing up again, and offices are always looking for administration to junior staff who need no qualification.

Dole's the easy option, you havn't even done a proper job search for a day as far as i can gather?

But, if you must go on the dole here is where you'll find all the info you need. That was easy to find too. :p

I would have thought anyone looking for a job would aply for the dole if they could get it.
Sorry, I don't know how to go about getting it in Ireland, short of going to the dole office and asking. I imagine you need some kind of proof that you're finished college (finals results or whatever).

You should be able to get it with a signed letter from college or school stating that you have finished your education.

Its a curosity thing as I know others who manage to sign on at the drop of a hat. I have been looking and I have quite a few CV's out there ATM but like I said its been slow.

when you say full time education do you mean secondary school or 3rd level ?
I'd advise getting ANY kind of job to build up your prsi stamps (usually means working continously for 9 months).
Keep ALL your tax and other work related papers safely as you might need to produce them in the dole office. If you work for 9 months straight you can then just leave your job and go to the dole office to claim unemployment benefit straight away, however in the section on the form where it says 'reasons for leaving last employment' simply write in 'end of contract' in that space. This is what is commonly known as a 'white lie' as you dont have to specify that it was 'you' who ended the contract with your former employer. Your arse is covered if they check up and in a court of law in such a case you can't be 'done' for telling lies to the dole office because technically you were telling the truth, you ended the contract between you and your former employer as opposed to your former employer telling you you're not needed from next month or whatever...u understand what i'm getting at here ??
It's also VERY important to remember NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER 'surrender' information to the dole office, only tell them things about your position on a 'need to know basis' and you can happily disappear into the system or 'sh*tstem' forever if you so wish...?
I hope this helps you if you're on a quest to avoid an honest days work ?? It's worked nicely for me for years when i've been 'between jobs' and if your working on the side (casual work) do it on a Sunday ONLY as you are under no obligation to make yourself available for work on a Sunday, good luck !!

LOL, intresing stuff. I finished post-graduate stuff and I havn't looked in to signing on beyond this thread. Have a few job prospects so things arn't too bad. I have had plenty of tax paying jobs in the past so I have built up plenty of credits.

glad to be of help ;) though I hasten to add, I don't make a career out of signing on, I worked for 20yrs before going back to study (on VTOS naturally :D ) but I found dealing with the morons in the dole office a 24hour job in itself. When interacting with the dole office speak slowly and clearly at all times so they get all the info the first time around and before you leave after a form filling session ALWAYS ask the person you're dealing with their Name. Also always ask them (at least 3 times) if that's everything sorted before you leave the office because the have an awfully frustraring habit of forgetting to get you to sign some other unrelated insignificant form pertaining to some irrelevant beuracratic matter before you get your 'legal entitlement'.
That's another thing to remember, if you have been working and paying tax etc. it is simply YOUR own money they are givivg you back, not THEIRS as they would often like you to believe.
If you get any sh*t from them and you feel they are being unreasonable simply report that person to your local TD who will promptly lift the phone and start asking questions (if he/she is any good) they don't like politicians poking their noses around at all ! but like I say good luck !
I hope I get a job after I graduate, I dont relish the thought of signing on again after posting this but what the hell, someone's gotta say it ;)

Just a quick question to add to this - can you go on the dole if you have just finished school and still living with parents. I have no idea about this whole area and am a little bit curious.

Best thing to do is go down to your dole office and register.

On another note, I read the first two posts and thought to myself..........what planet are they living on???? Then I noticed the date of the post, just shows how good the good times were!

I never even looked at the date - just assumed it was fairly recent due to the title.
