    hello.

Ive had a computer running away quietly in the corner of the office for a while now. I plugged in the monitor today and rebooted because the monitor wouldnt come out of standby. After restart, the monitor came on for POST and then for the initial XP screen. Then, back into standy? This is a mystery to me. Any1 able to help?

Could be a problem with the graphics driver?

did you try booting to safe mode?

I booted into safe mode and I updated the driver. There was a newer version available. Same problem though

it is probably out of range. You have a 2 high resolution or something or perhaps your refresh frequency is too high.

As far as i know changing the resolution in Safemode won't affect the resolution in full mode but you can try anyways - try lowering the resolution to 640x480. and restart in full mode.
If that doesn't work get you hands on a good monitor that can handle the frequency/resolution. If you can't maybe if you remove the graphics card in safe mode, restart - you should be able to enter real mode with a view then and it will reinstal and hopefully change back to default settings.

    Hope this helps.

I just completely uninstalled the driver. Scanned for new hardware and reinstalled. Funny, but its working now again anyway.

    Thanks guys

Yep just as i suspected in my previous post. You probably had a too high resolution and the monitor couldn't see it until you uninstalled driver and reinstalled which brought back default settings again.

    Best of luck.

mmmh, I dont know webmonkey. The card is a fairly high spec NVIDIA and it goes up to 1600x1200 @75hz. The resolution was set at 1280x1024 @85hz. And my monitor supports these no problem.

Is it possible that one of the driver files got damaged that it didn't reinstall upon getting the new update?

Hmm odd. I suppose it is possible but usually if a driver is damaged you either get blue screen, restarting or error message. But it should display something.
Well its working now anyways, thats the main thing :)
