Increase in my monthly sky subscription

I have just noticed that my monthly sky subscription has increased from €43.50 to €45.12. I have the family pack option with multiroom. I am still within my mandatory first 12 months.

Am I miss reading my terms and conditions, because as I understood it, sky are not allowed to increase my subscription within the first 12 months.

I should also point out that I recieve the sky magazine each month aswell. Is the increase due to this as I know understand they are charging for this, even though when I was ordering sky and asked if I wanted to recieve the magazine because it was free.

Sky are allowed increase the prices by 10% or the UK rate of inflation - whichever is higher - once a year. 1st year or not. Everybodys prices went up from today, you were notified about it with the magazine and/or by letter

The magazine does not affect subscription price.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me.

Just two more questions. Am I allowed to change my subscription package now? What are the Irish prices of the new packages available? I am only able to find the UK prices for the new packages.

Yes; and when you find out, let me know.

As far as I know, so long as you have had your current package for a full month, then you can change.

Irish package prices here - http://www.sky.com/skycom/article/0,,91069-1130664,00.html

Well if it's going up again I think I'll just change my package altogether. Don't even watch most of the channels anyway.

You can get entertainment, kids, music, and the documentaries for €26..... That's about all we'd watch. Not really into sports (soccer!!) and there's never decent movies on... or else I've already seen em....

I only want Sky Sports 123
    nothing else.
its costing me 64 a month

how can I do this cheaper ?

If you go here http://www.sky.com/skycom/article/0,,91069-1130664,00.html you can have a look at what packages are available. If you get 2 mixes, and then the sports then it should just cost you €41.50.... if Im looking at it right.

    no
its €50.50 for 2 mixes and 2 sports mixes
    (add another €6.25 for PremPlus)
    makes €56.75

    way too much.

    I might switch to ART

I'm paying the 64.50 at the moment and was thinking of saving money with these new packs ...

I could save a tenner a month by droping movies, I don't watch much, but I don't rent DVDs anymore (last 2 years) so I'm starting to get films I haven't seen.

I need the sports, so then I looks like I could save 1.50 to drop to a 4 mix. Sky seem to have slipped eurosport into news/events.

So I looks like I'm going to continue on at 64.50

64 seems expensive, but I used to smoke, 2 euro a day is nothing compared to that. It's the price of a meal out or a nights drinking, so I guess we shouldn't moan too much.

maybe, but what is the cost of Sky when compared to other providers? is it value for money? at a guess i would say no

So now the cheapest package that includes RTE1 Network 2 TV3 & TG4 has gone down to €21 50? Is this right?

Thanks for all your help in clearing that up for me. The number of subscribers to sky is increasing daily but the prices keep rising too. If itv and channel4 come on board soon then I will have no complaint but there have been no channels added worthy of an increase in subscription. Hopefully More4 and abc1 (with extended viewing times) prove me wrong

It would appear to be so.

Time for me to think again about splurging on Sky+ methinks.

I've just dumped Sky but kept my digibox with a FTA card for CH5, ITV2 and the Uk channels. Moved over to NTL digital and got 2 digital boxes plus multiroom (Analouge) viewing on all tvs in house, Broadband (Dumped Eircom for phone line as don't need it with ntl broadband) and I seemed to have saved a fair bit (Around €35 a month)

I have sports package on ntl. So far so good with it, Apart from when we had a power blackout in galway, Power came back but no ntl for hours. But still had FTA box for channels.
