Well, the only reason he stayed on was to do his best for his county.

If we want to be fair, we have to recognise that these guy is an absolute legend.

Wouldn't mind him taking over the ' Green above the Red ' I can tell you.

He's the greatest manager of our era by far

Wasn't having a go at him, just think that he damaged himself by staying on a year or two more than he should!

He was a great man alright. A legendary manager like Mick O'Dwyer.

Cavan supporters will always take great satisfaction though that, probably the greatest manager one of our biggest rivals has ever had, had to suffer a defeat to us as his last memory of Championship football.

In fairness, he hasn't had the talent to work with that he had in previous years. So I don't think it was a year or two too soon. The next Meath manager is going to have a very tough job.

I know where you're coming from, but I don't think he has damaged his reputation at all, but now is the right time for him to move on, as it is time for a change.

Maybe maughan, tommy lyons would be a good replacement.Colm O rourke managing meath would be hilarious.

sean boylan was there for 20 years.thats unheard of in current gaa.most managers are there for 4 years.I do think that he left at the right time.meath have no conviction at the moment and for boylan to stay on would probably send his blood pressure through the roof.

I remember watching him on the 'hangin with hector' program sometime last year and he didn't seem like a happy camper and told hector that he wouldn't go through the interview process with the county board again as he found it a bit humiliating.. I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

He had a lot of success over his years in Meath. Maybe he'll go into a new sport now. He could go and train boxers. Oh silly me, he's been doing that for the last 23 years!

    Very good.........

Word on the street is that he wanted three years but was only going to be offered 1 if he'd been elected.

He won't know what to do with himself after doing this for so long

He could export whatever he's been feeding them Meath fellahs and make a fortune.

I'd say his phone is hopping off the hook with job offers.

Wonder would he take the Mayo gig?

He'd have a bit of stuff to work with there?

Well as I said at start of thread, if he took on 'The Green above the Red' , he'd be well received I'd say.

I certainly don't know of a better manager 'available' at the moment, now that Johnno ruled himself out.

Plenty of good footballers in Mayo, it's a good manager we're short of.

Hopefully he'll move south a few miles to take the Kildare job.

I doubt Boylan would touch another county after doing so well with Meath, and living in Dunboyne for so long.

Think his family is fairly young also. He's made a good living off the business, I'd say he'll relax and do a bit of media every now and then

After 23 years of it I don't think he'll go straight into another job yet. Funnily enough, he actually came from a hurling background and when he originally got the phonecall asking him to manage the Meath team, he thought they meant the hurlers.

    Barry nets Meath job
    05/09/2005 - 23:32:39

Eamonn Barry has tonight been voted in as Meath's first "new" football manager since 1982.

Barry's long-standing predecessor Sean Boylan sensationally turned down the chance to put his name forward for a 24th year in charge last week, leaving the way for Barry to romp home in tonight's vote in Navan.

Current Walterstown boss Barry had been defeated by Boylan in a vote for the past three seasons.

Twelve months ago, Boylan, who led the Royals through a disappointing 2004 championship campaign, claimed a 50-37 win over Barry.

That decision angered Barry enough for him to accuse the Meath County Committee chairman Fintan Ginnity of allegedly canvassing for Boylan.

Tonight, in the Ardboyne Hotel, hot favourite Barry won the vote, beating nearest rival Paddy Carr by 57-25. Meath Under-21 manager Benny Reddy claimed 7 votes.

51% was the initial target for the winner of the vote, which Barry easily won.

The former Dunshaughlin supremo is expected to piece together his backroom staff for the 2006 season in the coming weeks.

Respect to a great manager and what he has achieved. Although I think Micko is the best manager of the modern era, he runs as a close second. I think to say he should have went earlier is harsh, he has not had the talent at his disposal that he had in recent years. I wish him all the best for whatever he does in the future.

Good to see Eamonn Barry has got the job, his brother coached us this year and you could tell it means alot to them. Best of luck to him, except against Cavan. ;)
