Alien Breed Remake - Sprite Animation Ideas?

Basically, I'm making an Alien Breed'esqe style game and, artwork being one of my obsessively practiced traits, I'm making the sprites myself.

Now, when I say obsessively practiced, that doesn't mean I'm much good, but I'm happy with the way they look, despite being fairly similar, but for me to animate them in TheGamesFactory I'm going to have to edit each sprite frame for frame in Photoshop and paste them into the program...

This is a time consuming process, one I don't want to bear again in the event that I end up disliking my sprites, scrapping them, and re-hashing them over again.

So basically I decided to throw the sprites up here (1 frame of them) and see if anyone fancies re-hashing them, making them better, or simply giving some thoughts on them before I bring them to life.
Let me know what you think, or even if you want to help, with my new project.

Thanks to any and all help recieved.
I'm more than capable of doing it myself, but with the rate at which I scrap my work, I'd like to feel more secure about the project before I give it an all out nod and get it done. Once the sprites are complete, the rest of the game will be easy.

Despite being a bit samey, I think they're ok.
Still, if anyone has any feedback before animation progresses, I'll be grateful.

They seem to smooth, add more detail so you don't get that gradient fill look.

I drew them from scratch, never used any fills or anything.

I'm quite happy with the smooth look, but agree it could use some additional details. However, there's only so much extra I can fit in considering I'm making each frame of the creature animations the same size, so have you guys got some idea's for extra details?

They're draft sprites - Before I get to the animation I'll be seperating the parts with black lines and adding shadows to give them a bit more depth.

Nice one Mobile, I never thought of adding veins or anything like that, very nice indeed!

Looks like I'm going to have to steal that idea for all the other aliens too, fair play!

Also, anyone fancy attempting to create a 'Face Hugger' / 'Head Crab' / 'Chest Burster' style creature?
I had made some previously, but I've changed the game from turn based strategy into an all out scrolling shoot'em'up so I scrapped my previous work and was hoping to make some others.

    Thanks for the help guys!
