well this is a shock out of the Blue..

heard the rumours but did not think they where true and he is not even fit yet???

How the hell did he pass a medical if Vieira could not and he seemingly had a Cist

    I still want Shay Given

Well he hasn't been getting games for Sunderland because he has been feeling his way back into fitness. I heard rumors but I didn't think much of them, it sure surprised me anyway. Even though his last two clubs were Sunderland and Derby in a lower division, he's 33 and has experience, so not too bad I guess. He was always pretty solid when I saw him for Sunderland. Might even chip in with a goal :)

edit; hate to be nit-picky, but it's Mart not Matt ;)

Viera just signed for Villarreal there too.

If he's not fit, then I am completely mystified by this deal. Surely the purpose of a deal like this would be cover for the first two CL games when Lehmann is suspended?

Anyway, I don't think it makes much difference. Lehmann has been in super form for a while now and isn't going to lose his place.

It would be hard to find a backup keeper as good as him , and if Lehmann has a dip in form he'd certainly be capable of taking over as first choice .

He is there to play two games in the champions league.
The goalie is happy cause he gets to play in the CL
Sunderland are happy cause they get Hoyte for the season
Arsenal are happy cause they won't have to put Henry in goal

Poom will be there solely as backup for Lehman, let's face it, Wenger can hardly put his faith in Alumnia can he?

Not a bad signing for a reserve keeper seeing as he done a decent job in the premiership when he played there.
