MP3 ripping in WMP10...

WTF? I thought WMP10 carried an mp3 encoder as standard (you used to have to purchase them for WMP9).
I went to grab a track from a CD earlier using WMP10 and I get an error box telling me that the codec is not installed, so it's wav or wma.
Now before you lambast me for using WMP to rip audio, I like the convenience tbh...I've tried CDex and don't like the UI.

So where can I find the codecs I need?
Would reinstalling WMP10 over the existing version likely fix my problems?
I've not ripped stuff on this comp before as most of my stuff has already been ripped on my old machine and transferred over...also this comp has had SonicSatge recently installed....could this be a part of my problem?

Lastly is there a way to get the LAME codec to work within WMP...if so where would I place the codec to make it work?
As usual all advice and help gratefully accepted

Why don't you just use CDex

Like I said in the initial post, I don't like the UI and it's another program to have installed, changed file preferences and such.
Also I just tried it again to remind me why I didn't like it first time, and when I ripped something there's no sound during playback., either in CDex or WMP or any other player ...

Basically right now, I can't rip mp3s that I can lisen to which is a hassle since I switched to a HDD player a few weeks back...

[edit] Okay I've d/led v10 again and reinstalled and it seems to have fixed my ripping ability...but can I use LAME inside WMP or do I have to stick with the embedded frauhoffer codec or what?

I wouldnt go near the fraunhoffer thing if i was you. Just put up with the hassle and get EAC with the latest LAME release. The quality is incredible with the new V system. Now theres quality presets from 1 - 10, finely tuned for the best possible sound. 1 is something like 32k all the way up to 10 which is ~250. Try it, it beats the snot out of WMP.

just install nero suite...mp3 codec is included and you should now be able to rip to mp3..make sure it's at 320k..this is cd quality...128k isn't work a fuuck...also i always use wmp10..it's fast..part of the o/s and no hassle with getting the names of the songs
