    Hi,

I was told recently that if you work any shift work up to and after 12am, your employer is entitled to fund some of your transport home if you rely on public transport. Is this true or have I been mislead?
The most I can find is http://www.oasis.gov.ie/employment/employment_rights/hours_breaks_sundays.html which doesn't mention anything.
    Thanks
    Ru

Thanks, I know dell in Limerick do it and a few companies here in waterford do it but a few people have told me it's out of legality rather than anything else.

yup - I dont think they're obliged to provide an additional fund to cover your transport costs.
As you're working unsocialable hours, the pay rate is likely to be higher.
This higher rate will usually factor into account transport costs may increase etc...

The only instance is for people working normal hours who may be forced to stay late / work an odd shift - this is only on occasions and not a daily practice.
It would be normal practice for the employer to fund travel expenses here. (Our company would offer to get us a taxi if we worked very late and just throw it on expenses).

    So nothing legally binding then?
    Damn, looks like I'm stuck!

    Thanks :)
