A dispute that had threatened to halt school bus services in parts of Galway and Clare today has been settled.

Bus services today operated to schools in Gort and Kilcolgan.

Private bus operators who have been demanding increased pay rates to compensate them for rising fuel prices have come to an agreement with Bus Éireann.

But seven other private bus operators in the northwest are still refusing to provide services at the rates offered by Bus Éireann.

Children at a gaelscoil and a special needs school in Sligo again found themselves without transport this morning.
