Try after hours, or college work.
After hours is your best bet tho.

Is college in America not really expensive.

thanks, yeh the college i want to go to is $44.048 for a year and it is 4 years all together but as my mom income is 40,000 the college will pay for the whole 4 years,so i wont have to pay for anything but books and contribution.

I have been told the lanuage is hard to learn, so try to learn it while still in secondry.
Try your guidance counselor in your school, you could also try going to a college and trying to get some information out of them. Im sure they would only be to happy to help.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭THEZAPPA

I'm already studying Japanese, it's not nearly as hard as people say...

I asked my guidance teacher - clueless - but I will look to a college...

    Han koo! :)

I did the SATs when I was 13 (yes, the proper ones) for CTYI (www.boards.ie/ctyi). You might want to enquire with CTYI to take an exam. You're 15, yes? If you're 15 or 16 then they'll definately let you do an exam (and if you get good enough marks you can attend the CTYI summer course). It's in January I believe. It's not too hard so don't worry. Not the kind of test you can study for. A brush up on your J.C. maths here, a look-up of the dictionary there and you're ready. Hell, I got in like the 56th percentile and that was when I was 13 (compared to all college-bound Americans of the previous year). Good luck.

I'm an Idiot. What I ment to say, was try ringing the American Embassy. They'll be able to point you in the right direction. However, if you want to get some background info before contacting them, yes, it's a good Idea to post here asking for people in similar situations.

This is not the message i posted Yesterday

I would like to apologise for being a dick. But still believe that there is no need to post here if the embassy is sending you out all the details. I also take offence to my post being edited. I agree I was being a jerk. But don't believe the message should have been altered

    Bye bye.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭THEZAPPA

YOU RING THE AMERICAN EMBASSEY, AND ASK THEM TO SEND YOU OUT DETAILS ON THE SATS. THEY WILL THEN POST OUT ALL THE DETAILS. DID YOU UNDERSTAND THAT ALRIGHT. OR ARE YOU LOOKING AT THIS POST LIKE A DOG WHO'S JUST BEEN SHOWN A CARD TRICK. If so [which is more then likly] PM and ill send you a diagram I reallly hope your not Trying for a Ivy League collage. If you couldn’t figure that out Stupido. By the way if you sit the SAT and get a resonable score you can right your own ticket into Trinity collage. Its that easey.

    you mean easy.

im not dumb you know,i tried that and im waiting.
but its in DCU where you do them, and no need to be so rude.

Oh god, it's so not. It's simple and just like a little challenge. Nowhere near the behemoth of the J.C.! If you like maths and English then you'll probably enjoy this. Just don't get stressed about it. Oh and remember that you'll have very little time to complete each section so be quick! I only completely finished about half of the sections and I was alright. With a J.C. education under your belt you should have no problems. Good luck.

get in touch with the American Embassy, they should be able to point you in the right direction,

you might also need to apply for a visa to get into the country. no sense in paying 42k and not being able to attend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

I too did the CTYI SATS. When you apply for them they send oyu out a sample question booklet with the types of questions asked on them If you ever did the Drumcondra tests in primary school they're a bit like them. For Verbal you have a reading comprehensions and 'what word best fits this' type questions. For maths you have various problems and equations to sort out. They are the two SATS used for gaining entry to CTYI although American college-goers have SATS in History and probably other subjects too. First off all see what SATS you'll have to do as there are many different kinds, even for the same subjects. Second of all find out what subjects you'd be taking the SATS in and order some SAT booklets online.

    Good Luck :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭THEZAPPA

I got in touch with CTYI adn they said that they do not do the SATS test anymore only for people doing their courses, but they said that they do might do it in st.Andrews booterstown so i have to ring them tomorrow.

if you're still checking this thread:

    www.collegeboard.com

we got asked if we wanted to do it as part of TY. I'd done it already, but we got that link. you can register, look for the next test date in ireland. there's a few places, and it changes around, sometimes st. andrews.

you can book and pay online as well.

    hope this helps.

ermm somebody said this earlier. But doenst college in the states costs a lot. You made a point about your family income but your still an international student and may have to pay full fees as a result.. Im not sure about this ,but its the way it is in Ireland. Maybe your right , but it doenst make sence for colleges in America just accept any students from anywhere? If you havent already done so you should really really look into this and read all the small print and conditions.
    good luck with the SAT's
