Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

CNet reports that Windows next operating system, "Vista" (that's what Longhorn is called this week), will be designed with extensive countermeasures to prevent the owners of computers from using them in the ways that they want. These computers will be designed to break compatibility with current monitors, analog outputs, and currently shipping software, all to ensure that the restrictions dictated by enterainment companies are obeyed by Windows.

there must be a point, all the same, when sum of what the new operating system (and the hardware to go with it) has to offer (speed?) is substancially less than the sum of what the old stuff already has to offer (every other useful aspect of the personal computer).

At that point, aren't they going to have a load of trouble selling the new stuff (with all its crippling DRM bits and bobs) no matter how fast it does whatever it is still permitted to do?

Most people who buy Microsoft won't bother. They'll see a name they know and buy it regardless.

Mind you, I am wondering about the legal implications of this (if indeed its actually as true as proclaimed), especially when it comes down to trade descriptions. Who wil be responsible if a video refuses to play on a persons PC after the buy it legally and it fails? Microsoft? Can they be held responsible if they don't advertise this feature? Or the vendor? Will they have to add notices on their download pages saying that it may not work correctly?
