Need Sky, but no phone

Ok this is the problem. My NTL subcription has hit its 1 year maturity and now I have to pay for my basic cable that I was getting for a year free. So overall every 2 months I'll be getting a €149 bill from them. That's alot of money that I just can't afford. So what I'm thinking to do is sever all tie's to NTL, close my digital, BB, cable account and get Sky+ instead.

Now here's the problem, I don't have a phone line and for various reason's that I would not like to go into I can't get one from Eircon.
Does anyone know a way around the phoneline connection thing with Sky that's legal ?

    Thanks
    K

Sky only seem to really enforce the phone line thing for multiroom. Some installers will do a setup with card and box on their phone before installing.

However, if you are willing to buy a box and dish with no subsidy then Sky will be very happy for your monthly subscription without a phoneline.

So you're saying that I can just buy a dish and box and put it up. Then get the sub from Sky ??

If so , any idea's how much they cost ?

You can get your phone from BT now instead of eircom. BT will do the full install, no eircom needed. If you ring around your local sky installers you will find one who is willing to do the install without a phoneline anyway.

I think a box and dish just sold here for 150 euro. 2nd hand boxes are quite cheap on ebay, people like LIDL sometimes sell cheap dishes. Getting a dish shipped might be a problem.

New boxes can be dear enough though.

i think your best option would be to go into your local dealer and ask him about a no-phone install.

my local guy told me that he leaves the box connected in his "shop" untill it is activated and then installs it in your house afterwards

yep, agree with the above, my local dealer used the shop number to activate the card I think?, then sent their installation crew out with the satellite and box, no extra cost. 3 years on and though I finally got a phone line, never used it with the digibox :p

sorry mate, I'm out on the northside myself, haven't a clue concerning Walkinstown, generally though it'll be an electronics shop that sells tvs etc (not the chain stores), that acts as the local dealer.

I had the same problem down here 2 weeks ago and the local sky fella for a small fee set up sky for me without phoneline.

I waited for card then called him, (i used my worknumber for the phone number) and they collected card, set it up at their place then installed it at my house( well they haven't done that bit yet as they are just after taking the card.

    DamoKen,
I don't suppose you could dispense the name of that local dealer to a fellow northsider with the same problem?????
