Using holidays to shorten notice period

    Hi,

    I am leaving my current job and I have given my notice. I have a number of days left as holidays and I want to take these off the end of my notice period rather than have them outstanding when I've finished and getting paid for them.

    Anyone know if i'm entitled to do this?

    Well there was a guy working with me who was leaving, so he booked his two weeks holidays, then handed in his two weeks notice the day before his holidays. Company was a bit shocked but couldnt do anything about it.

    Depends on where you work/what your management are like really I suppose

    I, like c-13, know someone who did this also.

    You are entitled to the holidays so normally there is no problem.

    You should really contact HR on this, as every company is different

    not really the way to go about it.
    Annual leave can only be taken with agreement from your employers (and they must take factors into consideration).

    In c-13s example, that company would have been well within their right to refuse his annual leave during notice if they hadnt found a replacement etc..
    He would still be paid his statutory pay when he left.

    I'd advice you to approach it this way - ask if you can waiver some or all of your notice with your employer.
    Is there a replacement there? Is the handover complete?
    If so, this should be ok.

    Regardless, you will be paid your statutory pay, but you dont have any right to use it to shorten your notice period unless your employers agrees.
