I've always found madness goes well with absinthe... the two certainly seem to go hand in hand in my case anyway.

Water is traditionaly used or sugar or both :)

Water can make some absinths taste a little worse as it dilutes the taste of the alcohol but gives a cool louche (it turns a cloudy, milky green colour.) and stops your tongue from burning off if your not used to it. Sugar is usually the best as most of them have a bitter taste.

A shot in a pint of cider is nice, especially if you have a sweet tooth and love black jacks :D although the smell is still quite strong.

Yes water and sugar is the traditional mixer for that vile drink. Better off taking shots and washing it down with cold coke or bitter lemon. And don't buy that hyped up liquid squalor again, same goes for the vilest of all tequila

Sugar and Dutch Gold. It tastes kinda fruity. It was really pretty good surprisingly.

Don't drink it if you don't like it.

Personally I love the taste and burn.

    Umm.

Fire. Threw a double on a lit barbeque before the summer and the flames nearly went above the house...

Lots of ice and sugar burnt in (look on the web for tutorials) is a good way of doing it. Or doing half shots (you won't feel that light at the end of the tunnel, constriction in your chest thing if you mix 50/50 with water).

Ive been slowly making my way through a bottle, and I only use water and sugar.
Sometimes I spark it, but not too often, as it can get a little dangerous after a few.

    Louche it:
    1. Suspend a flat triangular spoon over the glass.
    2. Place a sugarcube on the spoon.
    3. Dribble water onto the sugarcube, washing the sugar into the absinthe.

    Only way to go.

And rubadub, if I hear you besmirching the good name of my darling tequila again, there'll be words...

how the hell would you find a "flat triangular spoon"???
shots are the only way to go, part of the fun is the burn

    Get a teaspoon of sugar.

Soak the sugar with a little bit of absinthe.
Light the sugar/absinthe on the teaspoon.
Let it flame for a minute.
    Mix it into the absinthe.
    Extinguish the flames and enjoy.

That can be a little dangerous after your fourth glass ;)

Never burn good booze, you are just destroying the alcohol.

Well I said good booze so I will make an exception for absinthe

(and tequila, sorry sleepy ;) )

I have a mate who goes mental if you even mention the word tequila if he is drinking, he starts retching at the mere thought of it.

Or get a sugar cube, dribble Absinthe on it, light it, and dribble into the glass.

You should really man-it-up and just drink it though.

Definitely not tomato juice, from experience.

Petrol maybe, might mask the taste?

Mix it with poteen, drink it and see what happens. You'll probably pass right through to the other side of the space-time continuum. If you're lucky.

If I'm not drinking it straight for whatever reason (too drunk to know better? :) ), then I mix it with cranberry juice. It's really bitter-sweet that way, I quite like it...

in Prague they were mixing it with Red Bull, well the Czech version of it, in the night club i was in.....tasted good too!

That was a good night. All my Ameretto was drunk that night, and I forgot to keep the funky square bottle (that would have mede a good decanter)... Roll on November, I have two bottles of Absinthe for us to drink :D

Y'all might be interested to know just what absinthe is. Go to
    http://www.absinth24.net/shop/absinthe_glossary/absinth.html

Be careful, though, you might learn more than you really want to know.

I'm beginning to feel I already know more about absinthe than I want to. This thread has gone muppet, to use a technical term, so I'm going to lock it - I think the posts generally sum up the point that the best thing to mix absinthe with is a set of redundant tastebuds. Trade your working ones in for a bottle of it, and give it a go...
