I'm just curious about this really.I'm happy with the set up on my laptop at the moment but was often wondering if I decided to buy a faster/shiney one is it easy to make the new one an exact clone of the old,say rather than tranfering files that I might need in the new one is it possible to copy the whole lot over?

I presume some sort of back up/restore software is required, has anyone done this and what are the potential pitfalls

    TIA

You're talking about the HD right? then why not just get ur current HD and put it in the new one?

Well I wouldnt ever recommend moving an existing Windows installation to another (different) hardware setup. Licensing issues might also come into play. (Home vs Pro, Retail vs OEM)

If you want to take a complete image of your HD then something like norton Ghost is what you need.

If however you are only talking about taking your documents, emails and stuff across, then take a look at the XP files and Settings Transfer Wizard.
